Job Description:

Summary

The Manager Government Relations will support Ryder's Government Relations efforts with a focus on state and local issues, project management, and internal policy development while also contributing to select federal initiatives. This position will report to the Senior Director of Corporate Affairs and will work closely with cross-functional teams in the development and implementation of sophisticated policy-related strategies and initiatives. This includes educating and advocating on key public policy issues to drive Ryder’s business priorities while maintaining effective relationships with key key civic, government, community, business leaders, and other stakeholders.

Essential Functions

  • Manage the internal government relations programs, policies, and initiatives of Ryder by providing full project management support such as developing and maintaining core governing policies, internal controls, procedures, documents, systems, etc.
  • Monitor and analyze federal, state, and local regulations and legislation relevant to Ryder and define and track measurable advocacy outcomes tied to business priorities and communicate progress, risks, recommendations, and additional items
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams and Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to identify and gather qualitative and quantitative content needed to ensure Government Relations efforts further Ryder’s approach for policies, practices, goals, metrics, disclosures, and compliance as well as to integrate government relations strategies into business planning, project execution, community engagement, and external messaging
  • Develop written analyses, talking points, advocacy, and additional materials to support Ryder’s government relations objectives such as creating content (i.e., write copy) for communications (policies, emails, web pages, etc.) and manage contributors, content creators, and contractors/third-party vendors to ensure that all projects assigned are completed accurately and on time
  • Liaison and manage relationships with internal/external stakeholders, including federal, state, and local governments/policymakers, trade associations, customers, consultants, and other stakeholders

Additional Responsibilities

  • Maintain working knowledge of Ryder’s advocacy priorities, key regulations and legislation impacting the company, industry, customers, and other stakeholders

  • A high level of discretion and sensitivity is required in performing the work

  • Responsible for enterprise program outcomes, stakeholder alignment, and execution of strategic initiatives

  • Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree Political Science, Economics, Public Policy/Public Administration or related field , required

  • 5 years or more Professional work experience in government relations and/or a related field, required

  • 3 years or more Experience navigating state/federal legislative, regulatory, and executive processes, required

  • 3 years or more Managing cross-functional projects or teams for corporations, governmental or non-governmental organizations, consulting firms, or relevant area, required

  • 3 years or more Engagement with external affairs, public policy, sales, investor relations, and/or stakeholder management, preferred

Skills and Abilities

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and communicates comfortably with high-profile audiences

  • Action-oriented, organized with excellent follow-up practices and time management skills

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as a member of a team

  • Establish, facilitate, and maintain effective and collaborative cross-functional, professional working relationships at all levels of authority among a variety of stakeholders (internal/external peers, work groups, customers, policymakers, etc.) and build support for government relations initiative.

  • Analyze and evaluate economic, political, and social trends, impacts and consequences of legislative/regulatory policies and actions

  • Knowledge or familiarity with transportation, supply chain, logistics operations, and the legislative/regulatory process

  • Well-developed communication and presentation skills: verbal, written, listening, and group facilitation. Expert knowledge of grammar and punctuation in English is a must. Communicates comfortably with high-profile audiences, Advanced Required

  • Proficient in Microsoft 360 (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Teams), Adobe, and other technology applications needed to carry out professional work Advanced Required

  • Strong research and analytical skills Advanced Preferred

  • Working knowledge of the public policy processes at the local, state, and federal levels. Ideally have experience with transportation policy issue Intermediate Preferred

Travel - Yes, This is a remote position with anticipated travel at 20-30%

Compensation Information:

The compensation offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors, including the candidate’s relevant experience; education, including relevant degrees or certifications; work location; market data/ranges; internal equity; internal salary ranges; etc. The position may also be eligible to receive an annual bonus, commission, and/or long-term incentive plan based on the level and/or type. Compensation ranges for the position are below:

115,000

Maximum Pay Range:

130,000
