About Duke Health’s Patient Revenue Management Organization

The Patient Revenue Management Organization (PRMO), is Duke Health's fully integrated, centralized revenue cycle organization that supports the entire health system in streamlining the revenue cycle. This includes scheduling, registration, coding, billing, and other essential revenue cycle functions. The PRMO Business Intelligence (BI) department resides within the PRMO and is responsible for understanding the core technical components of Duke Health’s EHR.  The department is responsible for the design, development, support, and execution of reports, dashboards, and data solutions to support Duke Health’s revenue cycle operations.

General Description of the Job Class

The Consultant, IT serves as the BI platform and strategy lead for the PRMO Business Intelligence team. This role is responsible for defining BI standards, governance, and long‑term analytics strategy in alignment with organizational priorities. The position provides oversight of BI platforms, security, and organizational reporting frameworks, and partners with senior and executive leadership to shape high‑impact analytical initiatives. The Consultant, IT holds accountability for consistency, scalability, risk management, and the overall effectiveness of BI solutions with the PRMO.

This role serves as a senior technical leader within the PRMO Business Intelligence team. The position provides advanced technical guidance, consultation, and support to Business Process Consultants and Senior IT Analysts, helping shape solution approaches, resolve complex issues, and ensure consistent application of BI standards and best practices across the team.

Duties and Responsibilities of this Level

  • Strategic BI Initiatives: Collaborate with executive and senior leadership to strategically align BI and data analytics initiatives with business objectives. Lead the team in driving technological innovation, implementing and optimizing BI solutions, and solving complex technological and analytical problems. Foster a culture of continuous improvement and innovation by staying up to date with industry trends and advancements in BI and data analytic technologies.  
  • Technological Expertise & Innovation:  Define and govern technical standards and innovation strategy for the BI environment. Serve as the highest technical authority for BI platforms, tools, and architectures, resolving complex, high‑risk issues and approving technical approaches. Evaluate, approve, and sponsor adoption of new BI technologies, ensuring solutions are secure, scalable, and aligned with long‑term organizational strategy. Guide technical direction across the BI portfolio and ensure consistent application of best practices.  Provides advanced technical guidance, consultation, and support to Business Process Consultants and Senior IT Analysts, helping shape solution approaches, resolve complex issues, and ensure consistent application of BI standards and best practices across the team.
  • Platform Operations, Security, & Infrastructure: Oversee and execute upgrades to maintain optimal security and functionality across the landscape of BI platforms. Configure and manage reporting environments to ensure peak system performance. Monitor and troubleshoot system performance issues and report errors. Create and manage backups to ensure data integrity. Create, maintain, and troubleshoot Analysis Services cubes; configure cube partitions to maximize performance.
  • Data Visualizations: Define and govern organizational data visualization standards, KPI definitions, and best practices to ensure consistency, quality, and executive usability across BI platforms. Establish a visualization strategy aligned to organizational priorities and decision-making frameworks. Review and approve high-impact dashboards, guide visualization approaches for complex analytics, and ensure visualization solutions deliver trusted, actionable insights to senior and executive leadership.
  • Reporting Solutions:   Define and govern PRMO reporting priorities. Partner with senior and executive leadership to shape complex analytical solutions and reporting frameworks. Establish standards for data sourcing, report design, and automation, approve approaches for high‑impact or cross‑domain reporting solutions, and ensure reporting assets deliver trusted, actionable insights.

   
Education

  • Bachelor's Degree in a business or technical field is required.
  • Master's Degree preferred.

Experience    

Ten (10) or more years of progressive experience in business intelligence and analytics within a healthcare environment, including advanced expertise with Epic EHR data and reporting platforms. Proven experience providing strategic leadership for BI platforms, standards, and governance. Demonstrated success partnering with senior and executive leadership to shape analytics strategy and oversee complex, cross‑domain BI initiatives.

Certifications

  • Certification in Epic Clarity Data Model and Revenue Data Model required
  • Certification in Epic Caboodle preferred

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Personal Characteristics  

Expert knowledge of IT Service Management principles and their application to organizational business intelligence and analytics environments.

Demonstrated ability to build and maintain strong business relationships at all organizational levels to improve service delivery and customer outcomes.

Strong understanding of Service Level Management, performance measurement, and operational governance.

Ability to engage, influence, and communicate effectively with technical teams, business partners, and senior/executive leadership.

Experience with service management and ticketing systems (e.g., ServiceNow), supporting structured intake, prioritization, and resolution processes.

Excellent organizational, time‑management, communication, and presentation skills, with the ability to convey complex concepts clearly to diverse audiences.

Analytical, solution‑oriented mindset with strong troubleshooting and decision‑making capabilities.

Demonstrated leadership, teamwork, and self‑direction, with the ability to set goals, drive outcomes, and guide others.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office and related productivity tools.
