Job description

CET is looking for a Waste Reduction Consultant I to join our mission-driven team.

If you have experience in waste reduction, recycling, reuse, food recovery, or composting—and want to help businesses make practical sustainability improvements—we’d love to hear from you!

This full-time, remote, field-based role is for someone located in or near Worcester, Boston, or within a 30-mile radius. You will help businesses reduce waste and improve operations by starting or strengthening recycling, reuse, food recovery, and composting programs. The role requires travel up to four days per week throughout the New England service area, with possible overnight travel.

Candidates must reside in the assigned territory and be able to travel within it up to 80% of the time to support customer and program needs. If you do not live in or near the geographic location specified above, we will not be able to consider your application.

 
Essential Job Functions  

In this position, you will:  

  • Conduct assessments of customer location(s) virtually and/or in person, including by field canvassing 
  • Develop customized customer recommendations and present to customers persuasively 
  • Regularly consult with and assist a portfolio of customers in implementing recommendations 
  • Utilize different behavior change strategies to achieve a high rate of success in helping customers complete implementation 
  • Build and maintain relationships with customers, industry partners, and relevant contacts throughout the waste diversion marketplace.
  • Deliver virtual and in-person presentations at workshops and conferences as needed.
  • Track and record project information and data in Salesforce. 
  • Maintain knowledge of technologies, marketplace conditions, and strategies that may help customers improve facility waste diversion programs.
  • Calculate the tonnage of waste diversion and related cost savings as applicable. 
  • Provide input and feedback on technical content for resources. 
  • Network to create new opportunities and generate leads to secure potential customers, at times through cold calling. 

The Skills You Bring and Requirements: 

  • Minimum 2-3 years of waste diversion experience, including 1-3 years of commercial experience.
  • Experience with selling services preferred, with the ability to close on projects. 
  • Experience in education, educational materials, or educational services preferred.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills, with the ability to connect with diverse audiences.
  • Ability to speak a second language preferred (Spanish, Portuguese, or Mandarin is most helpful). 
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple programs and deliverables.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Ability to track and report results. 
  • Work style should be flexible, reliable, and self-directed. 
  • Home office/remote work location must have high-speed internet access and a working location free from distractions and interference during business hours. 
  • Experience with Salesforce and Microsoft Office. 
  • Must be able to pass a drug test and background check before the hire date. 
  • Must have access to a reliable vehicle for work-related travel, maintain a valid driver’s license, and have an acceptable Motor Vehicle Record.

This is a full-time, remote position. CET will provide you with a laptop and other office technology. CET also provides a monthly $85 stipend for home internet and/or phone expenses. 

Mileage Reimbursement: 

CET pays mileage at the prevailing IRS mileage rate.
