Position Summary

HCI College is seeking an experienced Biomedical Equipment Technology professional to teach online courses in its Associate of Science BMET program. The instructor will facilitate engaging, applied learning; connect technical concepts to healthcare technology practice; provide timely feedback; and support students as they prepare for careers in biomedical equipment and healthcare technology management.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Teach assigned online BMET courses in accordance with approved syllabi, course outcomes, and institutional policies.
  • Facilitate asynchronous instruction through recorded content, readings, discussions, applied assignments, projects, assessments, and virtual student support.
  • Use the College learning management system and Microsoft communication tools to post materials, maintain an accurate gradebook, document attendance and engagement, and communicate with students.
  • Respond to student questions within 24 hours, excluding weekends; providing timely, constructive feedback on student progress.
  • Use current BMET examples involving safety, preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, service documentation, equipment lifecycle management, software, networking, and related healthcare technology practices.
  • Monitor student participation and performance, identify students at risk, conduct outreach, document early alerts, and implement student-success action plans.
  • Maintain scheduled virtual office hours and provide one-on-one assistance as needed.
  • Participate in faculty orientation, learning management system training, meetings, professional development, course review, and accreditation activities as assigned.
  • Maintain required faculty records and comply with institutional, governmental, and accreditation standards.
Requirements

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in biomedical equipment technology, Biomedical Engineering Technology, electronics, electrical/electronic engineering technology, engineering technology, or a closely related field from an accredited institution. Master’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum of four years of related practical work experience in the BMET subject area(s) assigned.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of biomedical equipment service, maintenance, safety, troubleshooting, documentation, or healthcare technology management.
  • Professional written and oral communication skills, computer literacy, and the ability to teach and support students in an online environment.
  • Ability to provide official transcripts and documentation of relevant employment, certifications, licenses, and professional development.

Alternative Qualification Review

Candidates without a related bachelor’s degree may be considered only when the institution determines that a documented regulatory exception is applicable. Such a review requires evidence of alternative expertise, which may include related post-secondary education, professional certification or licensure, and significant directly related work experience. Appointment remains subject to institutional and regulatory approval.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate degree or higher specifically in BMET, biomedical technology, electronics, EET, or a related technical field in addition to substantial BMET experience.
  • CBET, CABT, CompTIA A+, Network+, manufacturer training, or other relevant professional certification.
  • Experience training, mentoring, supervising, or teaching technicians or adult learners.
  • Postsecondary or online teaching experience and familiarity with asynchronous learning.
  • Experience with DICOM, medical-device connectivity, healthcare technology software, cybersecurity, imaging systems, preventive maintenance, or equipment lifecycle management.

Work Environment and Expectations

  • Remote/virtual work with prolonged periods of computer use and regular electronic communication.
  • Reliable internet access, appropriate computer equipment, and the ability to maintain student confidentiality.
  • Completion of at least eight hours of continuing education annually in the faculty member’s area of expertise or professional development, as assigned by the College.
  • Regular and reliable participation in assigned course activities, student communications, and required meetings.
