Job description

Accounting Manager, GovCon Client Portfolio

Help build the accounting consulting practice of a rapidly growing, private equity-backed company serving government contractors. Own client relationships, develop accountants, and make a visible contribution to how the practice scales.

Fully remote | $115,000–$140,000 base + 10–15% target performance bonus

Own an assigned client portfolio from onboarding through ongoing delivery. You’ll stay hands-on with the accounting while becoming the person clients rely on for clear answers, dependable results, and a well-run relationship. Partner with Controller/CFO leadership as you build the experience to take on broader responsibility.

What you’ll do

  • Own client onboarding, status calls, delivery calendars, and retention across your portfolio.
  • Review payroll and month-end close packages before release; explain cash positions, results, and trends.
  • Perform and oversee reconciliations, journal entries, payroll, labor distribution, and job-cost reporting.
  • Own indirect and provisional rates, incurred cost submissions, budgets, forecasts, and SF 1408 assessments in partnership with Controller/CFO leadership.
  • Supervise and develop accountants, balance workloads, and improve delivery quality.

What you bring

  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience with government-contract exposure.
  • Hands-on GAAP, FAR, DCAA, and CAS knowledge, including cost allowability and indirect rates.
  • Experience owning client relationships or comparable business-unit accounting responsibilities, plus reviewing work and guiding staff.
  • Experience with Unanet, QuickBooks, Deltek Costpoint, or a comparable accounting system.
  • A bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance, or equivalent related experience.
  • U.S. citizenship, as required by client contracts.

Prior success delivering accounting services in a consulting environment is strongly preferred. Unanet plus QuickBooks is especially valuable. CPA preferred, not required.

Why this move

Put your technical expertise to work where it can influence an entire client portfolio. You’ll partner with Controller/CFO leadership, coach a growing team, and help shape the processes that support the consulting practice’s next stage of growth. As the business expands, build the experience to take on broader leadership responsibility.

Performance bonus is a target, not guaranteed compensation.

Compensation

Base salary is $115,000–$140,000 annually, plus a 10–15% target performance bonus.
