Job description

MariaDB is making a big impact on the world. Whether you are checking your bank account, buying a coffee, shopping online, making a phone call, listening to music, taking out a loan, or ordering takeout, MariaDB is the backbone of applications used every day. Companies large and small, including 75% of the Fortune 500 run MariaDB, touching the lives of billions of people. With massive reach through Linux distributions, enterprise deployments, and public clouds, MariaDB is uniquely positioned as the leading database for modern application development.

The Opportunity

MariaDB is looking for a Global Tax Manager to own the coordination of our global tax compliance calendar and support the integrity of our statutory books across multiple jurisdictions. You will work closely with the Corporate Controller, the broader accounting team, and advisors across several time zones.

What You'll Do:

  • Global Tax Compliance Coordination — 75%

    • Serve as the primary internal point of contact for external tax advisors across all jurisdictions in which the company operates.
    • Manage the global tax compliance calendar: corporate income tax returns, sales and use tax, VAT/GST, and other indirect tax filings, ensuring every deadline is tracked, resourced, and met.
    • Gather, review, and deliver supporting data and schedules requested by external preparers; challenge and resolve open items rather than passing them through.
    • Review draft returns and filings for reasonableness and consistency with the books before sign-off.
    • Monitor registration, deregistration, and nexus questions as the business enters new jurisdictions or changes footprint.
    • Track tax payments, refunds, and notices; coordinate responses to tax authority inquiries with external advisors.
    • Maintain documentation and support files sufficient to withstand audit and internal review.

Statutory Books and Audit Support — 25%

    • Review statutory books for foreign subsidiaries, including month-end close activity and book-specific journal entries.
    • Review and support transfer pricing entries, including intercompany charges and true-up adjustments, and confirm they flow correctly through both statutory and US GAAP books.
    • Reconcile and explain differences between statutory reporting and US GAAP.
    • Coordinate with external auditors on statutory audits: manage the request list, timeline, and delivery of supporting documentation.
    • Partner with the broader accounting team to ensure intercompany balances, entity-level results, and consolidation inputs are accurate and timely.

What You'll Need:

  • Education and Certification

    • Bachelor's degree in Accounting.
    • Active CPA required.

    Experience

    • 5–8 years of total tax and accounting experience.
    • 3–4 years in public accounting tax practice (Big 4 preferred), plus 2–4 years in industry.
    • Multi-entity, multinational exposure, including prior work with foreign subsidiaries and hands-on familiarity with statutory versus US GAAP differences.
    • Experience coordinating VAT/GST, corporate income tax, and other filings across multiple jurisdictions. Preparation experience is welcome but not required; coordination and review experience is.
    • Transfer pricing familiarity. You do not need to be a TP specialist, but you should understand intercompany agreements, cost-plus and TNMM concepts, and how TP adjustments move through the books.

    Systems

    • NetSuite experience required; NetSuite Multi-Book Accounting strongly preferred.
    • Strong Excel skills.
    • Strong working proficiency with AI tools such as Claude or Gemini, and demonstrated use of them in a professional setting — for example, summarizing advisor deliverables, drafting and reviewing documentation, researching jurisdictional requirements, or building repeatable workflows. We expect this role to use AI actively to increase leverage over a broad compliance footprint.

    Skills and Working Style

    • Strong project management and deadline discipline. Roughly half of this role is holding external parties to fixed timelines, so the ability to build a calendar, chase it, and escalate early is essential.
    • Comfortable working with remote and international teams and advisors across time zones.
    • Clear written communication, particularly when translating technical tax and statutory issues for non-specialists.
    • Self-directed. This role has meaningful autonomy and limited day-to-day supervision.

    Preferred

    • Experience at a SaaS, software, or database company.
    • Exposure to a public company control environment.
    • Experience supporting a company through jurisdictional expansion or entity rationalization.
