Maxwell

Computer Software / SaaS

We built Maxwell to change the game for small and midsize mortgage lenders — whether you originate $300M or $3B. Today our digital mortgage platform powers hundreds of mortgage lending institutions nationwide, from non-depository mortgage banks, to credit unions, to brokers, to community banks. We work to make them, and their employees, the real heroes who enable homeowners to achieve the American Dream. And we’re just getting started. Maxwell was founded in 2015 by homebuyers who were shocked by the complexity of the mortgage process for borrowers and lending teams alike. Somehow, in the mix of paperwork, points and process, the humanity and emotion of the largest financing decision of a person’s life had been lost. After spending a year with over 1,000 mortgage professionals, the founding team realized we needed to focus on making the people who make a difference really shine. Now, we employ a world-class team of software experts and mortgage professionals who pull up our socks every morning to do just that. We’re privileged that our company has been recognized by HousingWire, Progress in Lending, MReport, and others as a leading innovator in our industry. At the end of the day, we are a committed team doing honest work that really matters in the real world — one lender, one borrower, one homeowner at a time. And it works.

Job description

Your Opportunity:

Maxwell was founded in 2015 by homebuyers who were shocked by the complexity and inefficiencies of the mortgage process for borrowers and lending teams alike. We've built a platform that has not only streamlined the process and made it more efficient — closing loans 45%+ faster — but has made mortgages more accessible in the process. Our mission is clear: democratize mortgages by helping lenders work more efficiently and stay compliant while eliminating the barrier to entry and the stress for the borrower.

This is YOUR CHANCE to bring rigor and precision to a mission that's reshaping how mortgages get made. As our Contract Due Diligence Compliance Analyst, you'll dig into loan files and fees to validate regulatory compliance, working cross-functionally with our Data Capture, Credit Review, and Transaction Management teams to ensure a smooth transition from Compliance Analysis to Credit Review and beyond. This is a remote role open across the United States. If you thrive on detail, believe compliance and efficiency aren't at odds, and want to help spread financial empowerment, this is your Maxwell.

What You're Great At:

You are someone who enjoys digging in to ensure loan files and fees are accurate and compliant with regulatory standards. You understand what's needed to properly investigate and validate apparent regulatory compliance violations. Specifically, you bring:

  • Strong working knowledge and experience in the LauraMac Due Diligence software system
  • 3 years of experience in Quality Control/Due Diligence/Secondary Market (required), with fraud investigative review experience within banking or lending preferred
  • Knowledge of the principles and compliance regulations and documentation applicable to mortgage lending
  • The ability to meet production quality and service standards
  • High technical aptitude, with familiarity with Slack, Zoom, GSuite, and Microsoft Office
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with analytical ability, good judgment, and a detail-oriented, organized approach

What You'll Do:

  • Review loan packages, underwriting guidelines, or data files to identify the documentation necessary for the review
  • Capture required information from such documentation, including bookmarking relevant pages where such information can be located, in a designated place
  • Audit loans to determine salability or conduct final review of loan documentation for accuracy and completeness
  • Identify and document any discrepancies during audit, tracking document issues in the process
  • Enter data and fees from LEs, CDs, and COCs into the system of record and run analysis to test for issues
  • Ensure any exceptions are captured and recorded for incorrect or missing documentation, data errors, and any errors on the LEs and CDs
  • Research and respond to rebuttals and responses to findings
  • Maintain communication with internal contacts as necessary to ensure expectations and timelines are met, escalating issues as needed
  • Run system logic against information captured and handle any exceptions that may come from applying that logic against the data captured
  • Apply exceptions and handle validations where necessary to ensure a complete and accurate review
  • Accurately track time spent on reviews

Salary: This is a contract position and payment will be made per file, depending on the type of loan reviewed.

Why Maxwell:
