Psychiatry UK is the UK’s leading provider of digital psychiatry services, working both privately and with the NHS to support children, teenagers and adults with expert, patient-centred care.

Psychiatry UK engages independent contractors on a temporary basis to provide flexible additional capacity during periods of significant growth, increased patient demand. The requirement for contractor support is temporary and dependent on service demand and capacity. The scope and volume of services will be agreed for the relevant engagement.

This opportunity is for experienced independent clinicians able to provide specialist ADHD prescribing services on a contract-for-services basis. Contractors retain responsibility for their own professional practice and may provide services to other organisations.

Scope of Services

The ADHD Specialist Independent Prescriber will provide specialist ADHD prescribing and medication management services within their professional scope and the agreed services. This may include:

  • Provide safe, effective and evidence-based prescribing for adults with ADHD in line with NICE guidance and relevant professional standards.

  • Undertake medication initiation, titration, review and ongoing management.

  • Review treatment effectiveness, side effects, adherence and other relevant clinical information.

  • Respond to patient medication-related queries through agreed secure digital systems.

  • Complete End of Titration Reviews (EOTRs) and annual medication reviews where agreed.

  • Exercise independent or supplementary prescribing rights within scope of practice.

  • Liaise with Consultant Psychiatrists and other relevant clinical professionals where required to support safe patient care.

  • Undertake appropriate risk assessments and respond to safeguarding concerns.

  • Maintain accurate and confidential clinical records in accordance with professional and legal requirements.

  • Participate in agreed clinical governance, audit or quality improvement activity where required as part of the contracted services.

  • Maintain current knowledge of relevant legislation, prescribing guidance and professional standards.

The contractor will retain responsibility for their professional and clinical decision-making within their scope of practice.

Working Arrangements

The services will be provided remotely within the UK.

The scope, delivery of services will be agreed between Psychiatry UK and the contractor. Where specific sessions, meetings or other activities are required, these will be agreed as part of the contracted services.

There is no expectation that the contractor will work exclusively for Psychiatry UK, subject to professional, confidentiality and conflict-of-interest requirements.

To Provide These Services, You Will Have

Sound clinical experience in the initiation, titration and management of ADHD in adults. You will demonstrate a strong patient-centred approach, with empathy, professionalism and excellent communication skills.

You will be able to work autonomously, exercise sound clinical judgement and communicate effectively with patients and other healthcare professionals.

You will have experience of ADHD rating scales, validated monitoring tools and safeguarding procedures, particularly within remote or digital healthcare.

You will have a sound understanding of relevant legislation, professional standards and current developments in ADHD prescribing.

Essential Qualifications and Experience

Registered Nurses:

  • First-level registered Mental Health Nurse (RMN); or

  • First-level registered Adult, Children's or Learning Disabilities Nurse with one year’s post-qualification secondary mental health experience or a further relevant mental health qualification.

  • Independent and Supplementary Non-Medical Prescribing (V300) qualification.

  • Minimum of one year’s post-prescribing qualification experience.

  • Minimum of one year’s specialist ADHD prescribing experience, within private and/or NHS secondary mental health services or equivalent.

  • Experience of prescribing for people with ADHD, including medication initiation, titration, review and longer-term management.

  • Current professional registration and prescribing authority appropriate to the services provided.

  • Appropriate professional indemnity insurance.

Desirable Qualifications and Experience

  • Further relevant training or qualifications in mental health or neurodevelopmental conditions.

  • Previous experience within specialist ADHD services.

  • Experience of remote clinical service provision or digital healthcare.

Desirable Knowledge and Skills

  • Experience with titration and longer-term management of stimulant and non-stimulant ADHD medications.

  • Understanding of clinical governance, audit and quality improvement relevant to prescribing.

  • Knowledge of safeguarding and risk assessment in mental health and remote care.

  • Experience of working autonomously across different clinical settings or organisations.

Independent Contractor Status

This engagement is offered on a contract-for-services basis and is not an offer of employment with Psychiatry UK.

The engagement will be assessed under the applicable off-payroll working rules (IR35) based on the contractual terms and actual working arrangements.
