Position Summary:

Newfi Lending is seeking an experienced Senior Accountant to support the company’s mortgage accounting, investor reporting, servicing activity, warehouse reconciliations, general ledger responsibilities, and month-end close.

This role serves as a key accounting liaison between investors, servicers, warehouse partners, and internal Finance leadership. The ideal candidate will bring strong mortgage accounting knowledge, attention to detail, and the ability to research and resolve complex reconciliation differences while supporting accurate and timely financial reporting.

Key Responsibilities:

Investor Reporting & Servicing Accounting

  • Reconcile monthly P&I and escrow remittance reports and verify amounts due between Newfi and investors. 
  • Prepare investor remittance reporting, coordinate wire requests, and record applicable loan-level journal entries. 
  • Research investor remittance discrepancies and follow up on outstanding reimbursements. 
  • Review servicing invoices and escrow disbursements, identify discrepancies, and record related receivables. 
  • Serve as a primary Accounting point of contact between investors, servicers, and Newfi. 

Mortgage & Loan-Level Accounting

  • Post investor payments, invoices, repurchase activity, and related cash entries in Loan Vision. 
  • Manage accounting for Early Payment Payoff (EPP) loans, including reclassifications, accruals, holdbacks, and tracking. 
  • Support FHA/VA mortgage insurance premium payments, buydown funding, and related journal entries. 
  • Participate in warehouse meetings and support funding and cash-related accounting activity. 

Month-End & General Ledger

  • Perform bank, warehouse, investor LHFS, and investor warehouse reconciliations. 
  • Prepare EPP and escrow accruals. 
  • Reconcile loan funding activity between loan systems, warehouse facilities, and general ledger accounts. 
  • Reconcile assigned accounts including Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, Investor Payables, and purchase clearing. 
  • Research and resolve reconciling items and support timely month-end close. 

Controls & Process Improvement

  • Create and maintain accounting procedures for investor remittance, EPP, and related processes. 
  • Maintain accurate supporting documentation for reconciliations, journal entries, and accruals. 
  • Identify process improvements that strengthen controls, improve accuracy, and support efficient close timelines. 
  • Partner with the Controller and cross-functional teams on accounting initiatives and special projects. 
Requirements

Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of progressive accounting or finance experience, preferably within mortgage banking, servicing, wholesale, correspondent lending, or financial services. 
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field preferred. 
  • Strong understanding of general ledger accounting, journal entries, accruals, cash activity, and balance-sheet reconciliations. 
  • Experience with mortgage-specific accounting, including investor reporting, servicing, warehouse activity, loan funding, or loan-level accounting. 
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills. 
  • Advanced Excel skills and experience working with financial and loan-level data. 
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines and communicate effectively with internal and external partners. 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Loan Vision or another mortgage accounting platform. 
  • Experience with investor remittance reporting, warehouse reconciliations, EPP accounting, and servicing activity. 
  • Knowledge of Non-QM, DSCR, Agency,  FHA/VA, Jumbo, HELOC, or Second Lien products. 
  • CPA or advanced accounting/finance degree is a plus. 
  • Experience using AI tools or AI-enabled accounting technology to improve accounting workflows, reporting, reconciliations, data analysis, or process efficiency is desired.

What Success Looks Like:

  • Accurate and timely investor remittances and month-end reconciliations. 
  • Minimal aged reconciling items and timely resolution of investor or servicing discrepancies. 
  • Accurate loan-level, cash, accrual, and general ledger activity. 
  • Strong accounting procedures, documentation, and internal controls. 
  • Effective partnership with the Controller, Servicing, Treasury, investors, and warehouse partners.
