Our team of more than 180 professionals works across the country to deliver a diverse range of engineering, environmental, survey, mapping, landscape architecture, and planning projects for federal, state, local, tribal, and private clientele.

DJ&A is seeking a full-time Structural Bridge Engineer I/II with two to five years of relevant experience in bridge design, analysis, inspection, or load rating. This is a strong opportunity for an early-career engineer who is ready to take on greater bridge design and analysis responsibility while working toward Professional Engineer (PE) licensure, under the mentorship of senior bridge engineers.

Preferred Project Experience With:

  • Structural analysis and design for vehicular and pedestrian bridges
  • Preparation of bridge structural calculations, design drawings, and construction documents using AutoCAD Civil 3D and other bridge design software

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform structural analysis and design calculations for bridge design, rehabilitation, and replacement projects under the guidance of senior bridge engineers.
  • Assist with bridge inspection, condition evaluation, and load rating tasks, as needed.
  • Prepare and review bridge structural drawings, specifications, cost estimates, and construction documents using AutoCAD Civil 3D, and bridge design software (e.g., OpenBridge, BrR, LEAP, Mathcad, or BRASS).
  • Apply AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Specifications and applicable state and federal bridge design criteria, with guidance from senior staff.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams — roadway, hydraulics, geotechnical, survey, environmental, and construction — to develop practical, constructible bridge solutions.
  • Coordinate with local project teams and colleagues across DJ&A's offices to deliver high-quality bridge designs nationwide.
  • Support field assessments, bridge inspections, site visits, and construction observation as needed.
  • Assist senior engineers with QA/QC review of bridge structural deliverables.
  • Communicate technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical project partners.
  • Manage time and priorities effectively across multiple concurrent projects.
  • Engage in continuous learning of bridge design techniques, software, and industry best practices, with a proactive approach to professional growth.

Education and Experience:

  • B.S. in Civil Engineering with an emphasis on structures.
  • M.S. in Civil Engineering with an emphasis on structures is a plus.

  • PE license a plus.
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD Civil 3D, and/or bridge design and analysis software (e.g., OpenBridge, BrR, LEAP, Mathcad, or BRASS) preferred.
  • Understanding of standard bridge materials — steel, prestressed concrete, reinforced concrete, timber, and modular bridge systems.
  • Exposure to bridge inspection (e.g., NBIS qualifications) or load rating is a plus.

About You:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a detail-oriented approach.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment while managing multiple projects.
  • Self-motivated, with a passion for innovation and continuous improvement.
  • Comfortable working under deadlines and coordinating with geographically dispersed teams.
  • Genuine interest in bridge engineering and a desire to grow into a senior bridge design role.

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Occasional field visits to project sites, which may involve walking on uneven terrain and exposure to outdoor conditions.

Salary and Benefits

  • Salary commensurate with qualifications, experience, and location.
