Job description

Database Administrator – Microsoft SQL Server 

Location: Remote – U.S.

GetixHealth is seeking an experienced Database Administrator (DBA) to support the availability, performance, security, maintenance, and reliability of our Microsoft database platforms and supporting infrastructure.

This role will primarily support our Microsoft SQL Server environment and work closely with IT Infrastructure, Information Security, Application, and Development teams. The ideal candidate will bring strong hands-on SQL Server administration experience along with expertise in database performance, high availability, disaster recovery, security, and automation.

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Administer, maintain, and support Microsoft SQL Server environments across production, development, testing, and disaster recovery
  • Install, configure, patch, upgrade, and troubleshoot SQL Server instances and associated database services
  • Manage SQL Server databases across physical, virtual, cloud, and hybrid environments
  • Monitor database health, availability, capacity, performance, and resource utilization
  • Perform database maintenance, including index optimization, statistics maintenance, integrity checks, and database cleanup
  • Support database migrations, consolidations, upgrades, and modernization initiatives
  • Support migrations from legacy database environments to modern Microsoft and Azure platforms
  • Design and support database high-availability and disaster-recovery solutions
  • Manage technologies such as SQL Server Always On Availability Groups, failover clustering, and replication
  • Develop and maintain database backup, retention, recovery, RPO and RTO strategies
  • Analyze SQL queries, execution plans, indexes, blocking, deadlocks, and system resource utilization
  • Troubleshoot performance issues across databases, servers, applications, storage, and network dependencies
  • Partner with Application and Development teams to improve database and query performance
  • Implement database security standards using least privilege and role-based access controls
  • Manage database authentication, service accounts, roles, permissions, and privileged access
  • Support database security hardening, vulnerability remediation, encryption, auditing, and logging
  • Develop PowerShell, T-SQL, and other automation to improve database administration and infrastructure operations
  • Perform root-cause analysis and corrective actions following significant database or infrastructure incidents
  • Participate in an on-call rotation for critical production systems

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Information Systems, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience
  • 3–5+ years of experience administering Microsoft SQL Server environments
  • Strong hands-on experience with Microsoft SQL Server administration
  • Experience supporting Windows Server environments
  • Experience with SQL Server backup, restoration, recovery, and disaster recovery
  • Experience troubleshooting database performance and availability issues
  • Strong understanding of database security, authentication, authorization, and permissions
  • Experience with SQL Server high-availability technologies
  • Working knowledge of Active Directory and Microsoft Entra ID
  • Experience using T-SQL for database administration and troubleshooting
  • PowerShell scripting experience
  • Strong troubleshooting and root-cause-analysis skills
  • Ability to support critical production systems within a structured IT operations environment

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Azure SQL Database, Azure SQL Managed Instance, and SQL Server on Azure VMs
  • Experience supporting hybrid Microsoft infrastructure environments
  • Experience with Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, or similar monitoring platforms
  • Experience with Microsoft System Center, Azure Arc, or related infrastructure-management technologies
  • Experience with SQL Server Always On Availability Groups and Windows Server Failover Clustering
  • Experience supporting database migrations to Microsoft Azure
  • Experience with infrastructure automation and scripting
  • Experience working within healthcare or healthcare Revenue Cycle Management
  • Familiarity with HIPAA, HITRUST, SOC 2, and PCI DSS
  • Experience supporting environments containing PHI, PII, PCI, or other sensitive information
  • Microsoft certifications related to Azure, SQL Server, database administration, or cloud infrastructure are preferred

What We’re Looking For:

We’re looking for a highly technical and hands-on Microsoft SQL Server DBA who enjoys solving complex database and infrastructure problems and takes ownership of the performance, reliability, availability, and security of critical production systems.

The ideal candidate has strong experience with SQL Server performance tuning, high availability, backup and disaster recovery, database security, and automation. This individual should also be comfortable partnering across Infrastructure, Security, Application, and Development teams and have the curiosity to stay current with evolving Microsoft, cloud, and cybersecurity technologies.

Compensation:

Salary: $135,000 – $155,000 annually

Compensation will be based on experience and qualifications.

Additional Information:

This is a full-time, remote position with approximately 10% travel, as needed. The role may also participate in an on-call rotation to support critical production systems.
