Position Title: Hawaii Statewide YouthLine Trainer

Status: Full-Time/Non-exempt

Reports To: Maui Deputy Director of Operations and Statewide Community Engagement

Location: Hawaii

Compensation: The starting salary for this position is $25.50 per hour. This role is eligible for insurance benefits, a matching 401k retirement plan, professional development funds, and a free fitbit. Work site to work site mileage reimbursement. Additional compensation includes a $2.00/hour differential for employees with a Master’s degree. Additional details are provided below.
 
Schedule: Typical schedule is M-F with flexible hours based on training schedule. This position will travel statewide to accommodate meetings and trainings across all islands.

About the Organization: Lines for Life is a regional non-profit dedicated to preventing substance abuse and suicide. We offer help and hope to individuals and communities, and promote mental health for all. Our work addresses a spectrum of needs that include intervention, prevention, and advocacy. We educate, train, and advocate to prevent issues of substance abuse, mental illness, and thoughts of suicide from reaching crisis levels. But when a crisis arises or support is needed, we are available 24/7/365 to intervene with personalized help.

Hawaii Statewide Trainer Position Summary

The Hawaii Statewide Trainer leads YouthLine's training and education efforts throughout Hawaii. This position is responsible for delivering evidence-based suicide prevention trainings, facilitating YouthLine educational programming in schools, and supporting statewide initiatives that promote youth mental health and well-being.

The Hawaii Statewide Trainer coordinates and conducts training activities, provides guidance to schools and community partners, and helps expand access to suicide prevention and mental health education across Hawaii. This position also supports youth training initiatives, including Near Peer programming, training for youth-serving organizations, and community engagement.

The ideal candidate is an engaging facilitator with strong relationship-building skills who is passionate about youth mental health, suicide prevention, and empowering communities through education and training.

Hawaii Statewide Trainer Responsibilities

Training Delivery & Facilitation

• Demonstrate the culture of Lines for Life by modeling behavior that supports the organization's mission, goals, and philosophies.
• Facilitate evidence-based suicide prevention trainings, including ASIST, safeTALK, QPR, and other approved curricula.
• Deliver YouthLine educational presentations and youth mental health programming to schools, community organizations, and other audiences.
• Train YouthLine volunteers participating on the YouthLine help, support and crisis line in Maui and/or neighboring islands.
• Adapt training content and facilitation approaches to meet the needs of diverse participants and communities.
• Maintain instructor certifications and ensure fidelity to evidence-based training models.
• Serve as a subject matter resource related to youth mental health, suicide prevention, help-seeking behaviors, and YouthLine services.

Training Coordination & Administration

• Coordinate statewide training schedules, registrations, materials, and logistics.
• Maintain training calendars and accurate training records.
• Track participant attendance, training completion, certifications, and related data.
• Collect and analyze evaluations and participant feedback to support continuous quality improvement. Collaborate with YouthLine Portland team for reporting.
• Coordinate presenters, training resources, and other logistics necessary for successful training delivery.
• Assist with maintaining and updating training content to ensure information remains accurate, relevant, and aligned with best practices.
• Develop and implement systems improvements to streamline training processes and participant experiences.

Community Engagement & Technical Assistance

• Build and maintain relationships with schools, youth-serving organizations, healthcare providers, community-based organizations, and other stakeholders throughout Hawaii.
• Promote training opportunities and increase awareness of YouthLine services and local mental health resources.
• Represent YouthLine at meetings, conferences, community events, and collaborative initiatives.
• Collaborate with community partners to identify training needs and opportunities for expanded education and outreach.

Near Peer Program Support & Community Engagement

• Support the implementation and growth of YouthLine's Near Peer training and programming throughout Hawaii.
• Assist with the coordination, facilitation, and evaluation of Near Peer training activities and related programming.
• Provide guidance, resources, and support to participants and partner organizations involved in Near Peer initiatives.
• Help identify opportunities to expand youth engagement and promote mental health awareness through peer-to-peer education and support models.
• Foster relationships with community partners to strengthen participation and increase access to youth mental health resources and programming.

Data, Evaluation & Program Support

• Maintain accurate program documentation and reporting records.
• Monitor training participation, outcomes, and performance measures.
• Prepare reports and program updates as required by organizational leadership and funders
• Support grant-related activities, data collection, and reporting requirements as assigned.
• Participate in program meetings, team meetings, and collaborative planning efforts.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Hawaii Statewide Trainer Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Experience facilitating trainings, workshops, presentations, or educational programming.
• Experience coordinating projects, trainings, events, or other complex activities involving multiple stakeholders.
• Strong public speaking, presentation, and facilitation skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to organize, prioritize, and manage multiple responsibilities simultaneously.
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build relationships with diverse groups of people.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and web-based systems.
• Ability to remain calm and professional while managing changing priorities and challenging situations.
• Ability to travel throughout Hawaii, including occasional evening, weekend, and overnight travel as needed.

Hawaii Statewide Trainer Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, Public Health, Education, or a related field.
• Experience working with youth, schools, youth-serving organizations, or behavioral health programs.
• Experience in suicide prevention, crisis intervention, mental health promotion, or related fields.
• Certification or experience facilitating evidence-based trainings such as ASIST, safeTALK, QPR, Youth Mental Health First Aid, or similar programs.
• Experience providing coaching or consultation to community partners.
• Experience supporting statewide initiatives and community engagement activities.
• Knowledge of Hawaii communities, cultures, and youth-serving systems.
• Experience working with diverse, underserved, rural, Indigenous, LGBTQIA+, or historically marginalized communities.

Compensation: This is a union position with a step progression based upon years of service. Below is the current step scale for the base rate and a $2 graduate degree differential (if applicable) added onto pay when applicable:

0-3 years: $25.50

3-5 years: $27.03

5-7 years: $28.65

7-10 years: $30.37

>10 years: $32.19
