Our client is looking for a CAD Drafter – Stone & Tile Fabrication to support drafting needs across their fabrication and installation operations. They operate in the architectural stone and tile industry and have built extensive expertise delivering custom fabricated surfaces for residential and commercial applications.
This role is ideal for a detail-oriented drafter with architectural, construction, fabrication, or AEC experience who understands that a technically accurate drawing must also translate into something that can actually be fabricated and installed.
The CAD Drafter will develop submittal drawings, verify field measurements against project designs, prepare CNC-ready files, and produce detailed shop drawings for fabrication and installation teams. Most drafting will be completed in 2D, with opportunities to work from 3D laser scan data for more complex surfaces.
Strong communication is essential, as this position works directly with estimating, fabrication, and installation teams to ensure drawings accurately reflect project requirements and real-world production conditions.
Responsibilities
- Prepare accurate submittal drawings using architectural drawings, millwork plans, and other project documents as the primary reference.
- Develop detailed shop drawings that clearly communicate fabrication and installation requirements to production and field teams.
- Review field measurements and compare them against drawings, specifications, and design requirements before production.
- Create and prepare 2D CAD and DXF files used to support CNC fabrication equipment.
- Work from established company title blocks and drafting standards to maintain consistency across projects.
- Interpret architectural plans, millwork drawings, field measurements, specifications, and other technical documentation.
- Translate 3D laser scan information into clean and usable 2D drawings for fireplaces, showers, clad surfaces, and similar applications when required.
- Identify dimensional conflicts, missing information, or potential fabrication issues before drawings reach production.
- Ensure drawings account for practical fabrication and installation requirements rather than focusing solely on design accuracy.
- Coordinate directly with estimators, shop personnel, installers, and other internal stakeholders to clarify project details and resolve drafting questions.
- Revise drawings based on field conditions, project updates, internal feedback, or design changes.
- Organize and maintain CAD files and drawing revisions throughout the project lifecycle.
- Manage multiple drafting assignments while maintaining accuracy and meeting project deadlines.
- Support periods of increased submittal and drafting volume as workload requires.
Requirements
- Professional experience in CAD drafting, ideally within architecture, construction, engineering, millwork, stone fabrication, tile, countertops, cabinetry, manufacturing, or another AEC-related environment.
- Strong proficiency with 2D CAD drafting.
- Experience working with DXF files and preparing precise technical drawings.
- Ability to interpret architectural drawings, millwork drawings, dimensions, specifications, and field measurements.
- Experience producing shop drawings, fabrication drawings, submittals, production drawings, or similar technical documentation.
- Strong understanding of dimensions, scale, tolerances, layouts, and technical drawing conventions.
- Ability to think beyond the drawing and consider whether a design can realistically be fabricated and installed.
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to identify inconsistencies or dimensional conflicts.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with estimating, fabrication, production, and installation teams.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Ability to independently prioritize multiple projects and deadlines in a remote environment.
- Availability to work approximately 30–40 hours per week, with overlap during U.S. business hours.
- Ability to accommodate increased drafting demand during occasional high-volume periods.
Qualifications
- Experience with QCAD is preferred.
- Strong AutoCAD experience is highly relevant and transferable due to the use of DXF files.
- Previous drafting experience in stone, tile, countertops, millwork, cabinetry, architectural surfaces, or custom fabrication is highly desirable.
- Experience preparing drawings or files used for CNC production is a strong plus.
- Familiarity with 3D laser scanning workflows is beneficial.
- Experience converting 3D models or scan data into accurate 2D production drawings is highly desirable.
- Familiarity with fireplaces, showers, backsplashes, countertops, wall cladding, or other fabricated architectural surfaces is advantageous.
- Previous experience collaborating with U.S.-based construction, architectural, fabrication, or manufacturing teams is a plus.
- Technical education or training in drafting, architecture, engineering, construction, industrial design, or a related discipline is preferred.
Benefits
