About your new role:

CommandLink is looking for a Senior Software Engineer to own large systems inside the platform that Fortune 1000 companies rely on to run their networks. You will work primarily in Go and Python across the services, APIs, and data pipelines that ingest and act on telemetry from ISP circuits, SD-WAN, SASE, and security infrastructure.

This is a senior individual contributor role. You will own the design and long-term health of significant parts of the platform, coordinate with engineers on other teams when your work crosses their boundaries, and be one of the people the org depends on when something in production is not behaving. Mentorship and design leadership are part of the job, not a side project.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Own large components, services, or projects end to end, from design through operation, and coordinate across teams when the work extends beyond your own.
  • Design solutions to high complexity problems with availability, reliability, and long-term maintainability as first-class constraints, not afterthoughts.
  • Build and evolve backend services in Go and data and automation tooling in Python, including the APIs and event pipelines that connect them.
  • Act as a primary driver when production issues surface: lead the response, run the post-mortem, and own the long-term fix rather than the quick patch.
  • Take on independent greenfield work where a new service or capability is the right answer, and help the team decide when to spike, when to ship an MVP, and when to invest in foundations.
  • Instigate design discussions and give clear technical direction, pushing back on over-engineering while advocating for fixing what is under-built.
  • Teach and mentor actively, review code with an eye toward growing the person as well as improving the change, and share context that makes the whole team faster.
  • Improve engineering productivity through better tooling, testing, and deployment practices, and measure whether those changes actually helped.
  • Contribute to team goals and delivery plans, and play a real part in hiring and interviewing as the team grows.
  • Takes on additional responsibilities and projects as needed to support the success of the team and organization.

What you'll need for success:

Required

  • Significant professional experience building and operating production backend systems, with deep working knowledge of Go and Python.
  • Mastery of your primary languages and frameworks, and a strong grasp of how a large codebase and its services fit together rather than just the piece in front of you.
  • A track record of owning systems at scale, including the operational side: monitoring, on-call, incident response, and post-mortems.
  • Experience designing distributed systems and APIs, with sound judgment about data modeling, failure modes, and performance tradeoffs.
  • Comfort working across a variety of development approaches and patterns, and the judgment to pick the one that fits the problem.
  • Demonstrated experience mentoring other engineers and leading technical design discussions.
  • Strong collaboration instincts: you assume positive intent, offer opposing views without defensiveness, and change your mind when the context warrants it.

Nice to Have

  • Experience in telecom, networking, or connectivity, including familiarity with concepts like SD-WAN, SASE, BGP, or circuit provisioning. This is a plus, not a prerequisite. We expect to teach the domain to a strong engineer.
  • Experience with event streaming and high volume telemetry ingestion.
  • Cloud infrastructure and container orchestration experience, including infrastructure as code.
  • Experience applying AI and machine learning to operational data such as anomaly detection, classification, or automated remediation.
