Job description

Lemonaid Health is a mission driven technology startup committed to providing quality and affordable healthcare to patients nationwide. We build long term relationships with patients by offering a broad range of primary care services to help them lead happier, healthier lives.

About the role

We’re seeking a hands-on Controller to lead the day-to-day accounting function and own the integrity of the company’s financial reporting, ensuring it is accurate, timely, and well-controlled.

This role will own the general ledger and month-end close process, including balance sheet management, cash, accounts payable, payroll and benefits accounting, accruals, prepaids, and cost of goods. The Controller will work closely with the CFO, Finance, and functional leaders to ensure transactions are recorded appropriately, financial reporting is reliable, and accounting processes and controls continue to improve as the business scales.

This is a hands-on role today, with the opportunity to build and lead the broader accounting function over time.

What you'll do

  • Own the monthly, quarterly, and annual close process, including journal entries, accruals, prepaids, payroll and benefits entries, reconciliations, and supporting schedules
  • Maintain complete and organized supporting documentation for journal entries, reconciliations, accruals, and other accounting activity to ensure a clear audit trail and appropriate support for recorded transactions
  • Maintain the general ledger and ensure the integrity and accuracy of both the income statement and balance sheet
  • Directly manage accounts payable, including invoice processing, vendor setup, approvals, and weekly payment runs
  • Manage cash activity and support visibility into cash balances, upcoming obligations, and working capital needs
  • Partner with executive and functional leaders to identify accruals, commitments, and other period-end accounting requirements
  • Own accounting for inventory and cost of goods sold, including raw materials and finished goods
  • Partner with Finance on reporting, variance analysis, forecasting, and other financial analysis
  • Maintain and improve accounting policies, close documentation, internal controls, and operating procedures
  • Identify opportunities to improve, automate, and scale accounting processes
  • Support audit, tax, and other accounting and compliance requirements as needed

Qualifications

  • 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, including significant ownership of the monthly close and general ledger
  • Prior experience as a Controller, Assistant Controller, Accounting Manager, or similar hands-on accounting leadership role
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and experience managing both income statement and balance sheet accounting
  • Demonstrated experience with accruals, prepaids, payroll and benefits accounting, accounts payable, cash, and account reconciliations
  • Experience with inventory and cost of goods accounting, including raw materials and finished goods, strongly preferred
  • Advanced Excel skills and the ability to work effectively with large and complex data sets
  • Strong analytical judgment with the ability to identify issues, understand financial impacts, and communicate key takeaways clearly to executive leadership
  • Ability to operate independently, manage competing priorities, and work effectively in a fast-moving environment
  • Experience with systems such as QuickBooks, Ramp, Rippling, Stripe, or AWS QuickSight is helpful but not required
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
  • CPA preferred but not required
