CKSource is the creator of CKEditor, and with more than 20 years’ experience creating WYSIWYG editors, we’re the experts in rich text editing. Our flagship product, CKEditor 5, is trusted by both Fortune 500 companies and hundreds of millions of users worldwide, for its almost limitless possibilities and customizations. The latest version, CKEditor 5, was rewritten in TypeScript with a modern MVC architecture, custom data model and virtual-DOM structures, and is purpose-built for collaboration. It effortlessly works with modern tech stacks and easily handles complex implementations and edge cases. Developers have complete front- and back-end control of the editor, to easily configure, customize and control every aspect of the editor’s look, feel, and functionality. Infinite possibilities are achievable with the CKEditor WYSIWYG: collaborative tools and advanced features are individually selected, to perfectly suit your application and users. The story began in 2003 with a single open-source side project, when Brazilian developer Frederico Caldeira Knabben built a groundbreaking rich text editor, known as FCKEditor. The software rapidly became so popular in the open-source community that the project quickly expanded. CKSource was established in 2006 and has steadily grown ever since. In 2021, the company became part of Tiugo Technologies, a PSG portfolio company specializing in global, API-first developer platforms in the document and data management markets. CKSource now has over 80 employees, including more than 50 talented developers. In addition to making our market-leading software, we’re dedicated to supporting our people and building a brilliant company culture. In September 2022, CKSource was awarded the Great Place to Work® Certification™ – a global ranking based entirely on employee satisfaction.

Job description

With software used by millions of developers, and thousands of products worldwide, Tiny creates some of the world's most popular open source software. Most developers would be familiar with TinyMCE, the flexible open source rich text editor used by companies such as Atlassian, Accelo, Drift and more.

We are part of Tiugo Technologies, a launchpad for new developer platforms, helping software companies accelerate growth, increase operating efficiency and scale their business. Tiugo contains a suite of brands which are API-first, market-leading developer platforms focused on content creation and digital collaboration. Tiugo’s current family of brands include CKEditor, TinyMCE, ButterCMS and Uploadcare. Together our products have powered millions of software applications and websites. Enabling content and communication in everything from Microsoft to NASA, you might not know our name, but you’ve probably used our software.

Your role:

As the Senior Product Designer for TinyMCE, your work will have a direct impact on millions of users all over the world, literally. As a member of the TinyMCE product team, you will be involved throughout the development journey, from identifying the problems or opportunities to defining and designing the solution. You will be responsible for core design deliverables such as wireframes, prototypes, and UI designs, but also the broader experience for users, developers, and customers, for example how the editor should behave or if there are best practices that should be followed.

TinyMCE is a widely used component that is integrated into customers' web apps. The design work is often highly functional, almost architectural, with a strong emphasis on research, usability, and user experience for all types of end-users. Empathy for both developers implementing TinyMCE and their end users is a must.

You will partner closely with engineers from early exploration through release, using a strong understanding of modern web capabilities and constraints to assess feasibility, navigate technical tradeoffs, and ensure the shipped experience matches the design intent. You do not need to write production code, but you should be comfortable discussing complex implementation details, including HTML, CSS, accessibility, keyboard and focus behavior, and component architecture. You will also help maintain and evolve the TinyMCE design system across design and code.

Tiny is a fully remote organization with team members in a dozen different countries across multiple continents. We emphasize communication skills. You must communicate design briefs, documentation, and ideas clearly in written or video form in English.

Key responsibilities:

  • Own cross-functional design initiatives from discovery to delivery, partnering with product management to frame problems and shape design requirements

  • Validate design directions through prototyping, critique, and stakeholder feedback

  • Drive alignment and tradeoff decisions with product, engineering, and design peers

  • Continuously improve interaction patterns, accessibility, and consistency across the editor and its features

  • Partner directly with engineers on feasibility and constraints, and follow designs through implementation to ensure the shipped result matches design intent

  • Maintain and evolve the TinyMCE design system, from design source through its implementation in code

  • Proactively identify experience gaps through customer feedback and research into industry trends and competitors, and propose improvements
