Job description

Your Role

We are looking for a Backend Engineer (5+ years experience) to join our Assess engineering team building secure, scalable financial products. You will work directly alongside our other engineers to own, build, and scale our Assess backend infrastructure and product offering from the ground up.
While your primary strength and passion lie in backend systems (Python, Go, and Kubernetes), we value a pragmatic, product-driven mindset. You should be comfortable occasionally jumping into our React frontend when needed to get features over the line, even if backend is where you do your best work.

What you’ll do

  • Co-own the entire back-end stack: Design, build, and maintain our core micro-services in Python and Go.
  • Leverage AI-first workflows: Use AI-first development workflows to act as a force multiplier, moving fast without sacrificing code quality. Focus on create detailed plans to be executed by agents rather than writing code directly. Use your technical and analytic skills to evaluate the outcome and ensure the generated code fulfills all the requirements.
  • Own our infrastructure: Manage, deploy, and scale our services using Kubernetes, ensuring high availability and system reliability.
  • Collaborate on product & architecture: Partner directly with the team to make rapid architectural, tool selection, and product roadmap decisions.
  • Optimize for speed and security: Build fast, but maintain high security and compliance standards necessary for financial systems.
  • Wear multiple hats: Run Dev Ops, monitor production systems, and occasionally touch the React/Typescript front-end to unblock feature releases.

What You Bring

  • 5+ years of experience building and scaling production-grade back-end systems.
  • Deep, production-level expertise in Go and/or Python (comfort switching between both is key).
  • AI Tool Fluency: Highly proficient in leveraging AI-first coding workflows to maximize your output and troubleshoot rapidly.
  • Hands-on Kubernetes experience: Ability to set up, debug, and manage containerized environments independently.
  • Product-oriented, "founder" mindset: You care about the user and the business, not just the code. You know when to build a perfect system and when to ship a scrappy MVP.

What we offer

  • Impact & Ownership: An environment where your ownership is valued and strengthened.
  • Flexibility: A modern, hybrid working model across our Berlin and Munich locations. We work in a hybrid setup, with a strong focus on teamwork and efficient collaboration.
  • Personal growth: We support your development with a personal budget, semi-annual feedback, and clear growth paths.
  • Pioneering spirit: Become part of a team with genuine passion for the future of open banking.
