Job description

Audience Engagement Manager

Scientific American

About Scientific American
Scientific American covers the most important and exciting research, ideas, and knowledge in science, health,
technology, the environment, and society. It is committed to sharing trustworthy knowledge, enhancing our
understanding of the world, and advancing science. Founded in 1845, Scientific American is the oldest continuously
published magazine in the United States. It has published articles by more than 200 Nobel Prize winners and reaches
more than 20 million people around the world each month through its website, print and digital editions, newsletters
and app. It reaches millions more through social media and other platforms.

About the Role

Scientific American is looking for an Audience Engagement Manager who lives online and can spot a shift in the algorithm before it shows up in our traffic. This is a junior-to-mid-level role for someone who wants to be the public voice of the brand and takes that responsibility seriously.

What You'll Do
• Post and manage content across all platforms, maintaining our editorial voice and style. We are a news
organization, so we post multiple times a day on each platform and often require quick-response posting for
breaking news
• Track and analyze traffic and engagement data to inform what we post and when
• Serve as point person for distribution partnerships and aggregators (Apple News and similar)
• Moderate and manage the on-site Discussions tool, suggesting prompts, analyzing responses, and reporting to
leadership what works and what doesn't
• Collaborate closely with the multimedia desk on short-form and vertical video
• Work across desks to adapt stories for social formats without diluting them

Who You Are
• 2-3 years in social media, ideally at a publication or media company
• Fluency with Canva, a social management platform (e.g., Sprinklr), and analytics tools (e.g., Chartbeat)
• Sharp instinct for platform trends and how to translate them into brand-appropriate content
• Comfortable being the face of the brand publicly — writes and posts in a consistent, recognizable voice
• Strong collaborator across editorial, video, and audience teams

Please upload your resume and a cover letter explaining why you’re passionate about engaging audiences and how you’d do that for Scientific American.
