Job description

The New Republic is looking for a detail-oriented, self-motivated, and communicative digital product manager. Reporting to the digital director, the role oversees all product workflows—from discovery to delivery of roadmapped projects to the repairs of bugs found on the website and paywall. The person will manage development products involving the editorial and business teams, as well as outside vendors.

The right candidate is someone who naturally communicates digital process and progress in layperson’s terms, accounting for varied digital literacy within the company—and is someone who can firmly articulate priorities and uphold product protocols to stakeholders who might not grasp the greater nuance of development workflows.

Primary Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Lead daily and weekly stand-up meetings with the digital director and developers.
  • Create, update, and organize all Asana tickets in order to keep stakeholders informed of progress and to scope potential blocks in development.
  • Ensure developers understand their priorities at all times.
  • Act as liaison between the digital director and editorial and publishing stakeholders on the status of product builds.
  • Document developers’ monthly estimated and actual development hours for tickets.
  • Create and maintain detailed and sophisticated product roadmaps with large projects.
  • Coordinate daily deployments.
  • Document and report daily site speed, as well as other optimization details.
  • Report success of optimization touchpoints deployed on the website.
  • Enforce protocol standards for visual and editorial modifications for marketing, outreach, and engagement projects.

Qualifications:

  • At least two years’ experience with project and/or product management required.
  • Media experience or background preferred.
  • Must have demonstrated ability to:
    • communicate technical issues to a nontechnical staff;
    • handle multiple short- and long-term projects simultaneously;
    • firmly enforce protocols across departments and outside vendors;
    • quickly respond to staff technical queries via Slack and Asana;
    • create clear agendas for meetings.
  • Must possess:
    • expert knowledge of Asana;
    • familiarity and understanding of Google Analytics, Page Insights, and other analytical tools for web performance, and ability to obtain and interpret traffic analytics;
    • an understanding of front- and back-end development processes and execution.

To apply, please submit your résumé and a cover letter about why you’re right for this position at The New Republic. While media experience is preferred for this role, it is not required; nonetheless, the cover letter must be tailored to TNR, showing a clear understanding of our sensibility and history.

This is a full-time position.  The salary for this role is $80,500.

The New Republic is committed to diversity and encourages members of underrepresented communities to apply, including women, LGBTQ people, people of color, people with criminal records, veterans, and people with disabilities.

This position is covered by the collective-bargaining agreement between The New Republic and the NewsGuild of New York, CWA Local 31003, AFL-CIO.

Compensation: $80,500 annually
