About Us_
// At Masabi, we’re driving the fare payment revolution, powering the journeys of millions all over the world. We build fare collection platforms that allow riders to seamlessly buy and present tickets for public transport either on their mobile phones, from a ticket machine, or even by tapping their bank card to travel.
Our Justride platform is used in over 250 locations globally, including some of the largest cities in the world. With our industry-first mobile ticketing SDK, we’ve partnered with large players in the transport space, including Uber, Moovit and Transit.
Your own journey is important to us too. Choosing a role here means joining a network of innovators from all walks of life; a group of passionate individuals who consistently deliver. Here, you’ll find the tools you need to build the career you want. Whether you’re taking the direct route or trying a new path, we’ll support you no matter what.
The Role_
// At Masabi, we're building technology that makes public transport simpler, fairer and more accessible for millions of people. Behind every agency that runs on our platform is a commercial agreement someone had to shape, negotiate and close.
As our Legal Counsel, you'll work closely with our General Counsel, leading on our largest and most complex commercial deals.
Much of the work follows one opportunity from beginning to end. It starts with major tenders and public procurements, where you'll shape our position on the terms we can work with and the ones worth challenging. From there you'll take the deal through negotiation to signature, with colleagues across the business bringing the commercial and technical detail. Underneath runs the advisory side: data protection and privacy, IP and licensing, and the questions that come with operating across several markets.
You'll work directly with our CEO, CFO and CPO, helping them see risk clearly and decide quickly. Legal is a close-knit team, so you'll have genuine influence over how we work.
Our biggest markets are the UK and North America, though we work well beyond both, so the jurisdictions and deal types vary.
Location_
// This role is available on a remote basis for candidates located anywhere in the UK. Candidates based in London may also work in a hybrid model, with occasional travel to the office. We're not able to offer visa sponsorship for this role, so you'll need an existing right to work in the UK.
Responsibilities_
Take the lead on the legal side of major tenders and public procurements, shaping our position on the terms and where we're willing to move
Lead the negotiation and close of our largest customer contracts, working with colleagues across the business to settle the commercial, technical and operational detail alongside the legal
Carry major opportunities from first look through to a signed contract
Draft and negotiate across our full commercial range, including SaaS and licensing, implementation and professional services, NDAs, data processing terms, and partnership and reseller agreements
Advise the business on data protection and privacy, IP and licensing, and the commercial questions that come up day to day
Work directly with our CEO, CFO and CPO, translating legal risk into commercial choices they can act on
Use our AI and agentic tooling as part of how you work, and help shape where Legal takes it next
Step in for our General Counsel during periods of leave, or when he's committed elsewhere
About You_
You hold a law degree and a current practising certificate, qualified in the UK, the US, or a Commonwealth jurisdiction such as Australia, New Zealand, Ireland or Canada
Several years in practice since qualifying
You have strong, hands-on experience drafting and negotiating complex technology contracts, particularly SaaS, and have led those negotiations yourself
Communicates with precision, giving you a clear answer to a senior stakeholder without unnecessary detail
You're comfortable across a broad remit, moving between a major negotiation and a smaller advisory question in the same day
Has worked across more than one jurisdiction
You think ahead as well as answering what's in front of you — when the same issue keeps coming back, you'd rather change how it's handled than answer it a third time
Builds trust easily across a business, so people tend to bring you in early rather than once a decision is already made
You're interested in how AI can support legal work, with a clear sense of where judgement stays with you
Trusts your own judgement on risk, and you're comfortable standing by it
You can have the harder conversations with senior people and come out of them on good terms
We don't expect you to tick every box. What matters most is curiosity, a willingness to learn, and the motivation to take ownership of your work.
Nice To Have_
Public sector procurement experience, particularly in North America
Experience in public transport, mobility, fare collection, payments or another regulated infrastructure environment
AI at Masabi_
//AI is becoming part of how we work at Masabi. You don’t need professional experience using AI tools, but we’d expect you’ve experimented with them and are curious about how they can help you learn, solve problems, and work more effectively.
