Job description

Segal McCambridge, a nationally recognized litigation firm, is seeking a motivated Associate Attorney with 3+ years of defense litigation experience to join our Boston team. The ideal candidate will have experience in general liability, toxic tort, asbestos, tobacco defense, product liability, or related civil defense litigation.

This is an outstanding opportunity for a talented litigator to work on complex matters, gain substantial hands-on courtroom experience, and grow within a dynamic, trial-focused firm recognized for excellence nationwide. The attorney may be based anywhere in New England, with a preference for candidates located in Massachusetts, Connecticut, or Rhode Island.

What You’ll Do

As part of our Boston team, you will manage a diverse defense caseload involving:

  • General liability, including premises liability and transportation claims
  • Product liability litigation
  • Asbestos defense
  • Tobacco defense
  • Other complex civil litigation matters

Responsibilities include:

  • Drafting pleadings, discovery, dispositive motions, and other substantive legal documents
  • Conducting and defending depositions of fact and expert witnesses
  • Managing discovery and developing case strategy
  • Attending court conferences, hearings, mediations, and settlement negotiations
  • Communicating directly with clients, insurers, and opposing counsel
  • Assisting with trial preparation and participating in trial as needed
  • Managing cases independently while collaborating with experienced trial attorneys and members of the broader Segal McCambridge team

This position provides the opportunity to gain substantial hands-on experience and mentorship from experienced trial attorneys in a supportive, collaborative environment.

What We’re Looking For

  • 3+ years of experience in defense litigation, ideally in general liability, toxic tort, asbestos, tobacco, product liability, or related civil defense
  • Admission to practice in Massachusetts, Connecticut, or Rhode Island required
  • Candidates admitted in two or more of these jurisdictions are strongly preferred
  • Excellent research, writing, and oral advocacy skills
  • Proven ability to handle motion practice, depositions, discovery, and client communications
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to manage cases and responsibilities with increasing independence
  • Team-oriented mindset with a proactive, client-focused approach

Compensation & Location

  • Anticipated salary: $120,000–$165,000, commensurate with experience
  • Candidates may be based anywhere in New England
  • Preference for candidates based in Massachusetts, Connecticut, or Rhode Island
  • Admission in multiple New England jurisdictions is highly desirable
