Job description

We are looking for an experienced Sr. Privacy Consultant to join our team at PrivacyWorks Consulting. If you’re a privacy industry professional looking to join a fast-growing company, we would love to hear from you.

In this role, you will lead and oversee complex privacy projects, guiding clients in both the private and public sectors to build, implement, and sustain effective privacy programs. You will work closely with our Manager, partners, and clients to develop practical, business-focused data protection strategies, while providing mentorship and dotted-line oversight to our Privacy Consultants. Your expertise will help ensure that all client deliverables meet the highest standards of quality, compliance, and clarity.

Responsibilities

Core Responsibilities (Direct Client Work)

  • Lead or co-lead complex privacy consulting projects from intake to final delivery, including stakeholder interviews, documentation review, and analysis.
  • Draft high-quality privacy documentation, such as policies, procedures, consent language, and privacy notices.
  • Conduct legislative and regulatory research to support client-specific advice, including identifying relevant compliance obligations and risks.
  • Perform quality assurance checks on your own work and ensure alignment with legal/regulatory requirements and client expectations.
  • Develop project timelines and track progress, ensuring milestones are met and deliverables are completed on schedule.
  • Participate in client meetings to present findings, clarify recommendations, and address feedback.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of Canadian privacy legislation, case law, and regulator guidance, incorporating changes into project work.
  • Identify opportunities to improve client outcomes through tailored recommendations and practical implementation strategies.
  • Support business development by contributing to proposals, scoping documents, and sample deliverables for prospective clients.

Leadership & Oversight (Dotted-Line to Privacy Consultant)

  • Review and provide feedback on Privacy Impact Assessments (PIAs), risk assessments, and other deliverables prepared by Privacy Consultants.
  • Provide detailed feedback and coaching to Privacy Consultants on improving deliverable quality, structure, and clarity to maintain consistent quality standards across the team’s work.
  • Act as an escalation point for Privacy Consultants facing complex analysis or unclear legislative interpretation.
  • Support the Manager in resource allocation, workload balancing, and flagging when additional team support is needed.
  • Identify opportunities to improve internal templates, guidance documents, and processes based on deliverable review insights.
  • Share subject matter expertise on emerging trends, regulatory updates, and best practices through informal mentoring and knowledge-sharing.
  • Play a key role in product development with other PrivacyWorks team members as we continue to expand our offerings and clientele.

Employment Requirements

  • 8 + year experience in information privacy.
  • CIPP/C certification.
  • Other additional designations are highly desirable (CIPM, AIGP, CIPT, CIPP/EU, CIPP/US, CISSP, etc.).
  • Professional certifications from the Privacy and Access Council of Canada (PACC), such as AAPP®, CAPP®, or MAPP®, are considered an asset
  • Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • In-depth knowledge of Canadian Privacy legislation on a National and Provincial level.
  • Knowledge of International privacy laws, including GDPR.
  • Demonstrated practical experience in helping companies implement comprehensive privacy and data protection programs.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to effectively liaise with various client stakeholders including legal, technical, executive, and administrative.
  • Strong technical abilities and advanced proficiency with software such as Excel, Word, Visio (or other data mapping tools), etc.
  • Demonstrated ability to adapt and work effectively in a changing environment.
  • Knowledge of artificial intelligence technologies, electronic information systems and information management processes.
  • Ability to work independently, and self manage timelines and project hours.
