Overview of position

Editor-in-Chief (Paediatric), International Journal of Language and Communication Disorders (IJLCD)
 
We are seeking an Editor-in-Chief (Paediatric) for the IJLCD to co-lead our supportive editorial team from February 2027. 
  
The IJLCD is an international, peer-reviewed, clinically applied journal, which draws together findings from research in speech, language, communication, and swallowing disorders. 
  
The role of Editor-in-Chief is a senior leadership position in SLT research. It offers the post-holder the opportunity to lead on strategic and editorial development of the journal, to maximise the dissemination of high-quality research in the field of communication and swallowing disorders.

The role

The successful candidate for this position will:
  • Have a PhD in a relevant academic discipline
  • Have extensive knowledge, skills, and senior experience in research 
  • Have extensive experience handling peer-review / in academic publishing, ideally at least at an Associate Editor level
  • Have a working understanding of current key issues and opportunities in academic publishing, including the Open Science, implications of AI and other items 
  • Have knowledge, skills, and experience in leadership and strategic development
  • Commit to carrying out the role for a minimum term of three years
 
Senior clinical and research experience as an SLT and membership of the RCSLT are desirable. Applicants from diverse backgrounds and/or under-represented groups are welcomed.
  

What we can offer you

This role receives an annual payment of £3,500 (with 2% increase per year).

  • An assessment of the strengths and areas for development for the IJLCD, presenting a vision for the IJLCD and how they would like to see it develop in the short and longer term.
