What is the role?

This role leads and supports the operation, inspection and maintenance of building systems and equipment in our owned and leased buildings across the Denver Metro area. 

 

What will be expected of me?

  • Responding to and completing engineering tickets at Westerra’s Cherry Creek corporate headquarters, branches and other locations – for both Westerra employees and tenants
  • Implement and lead the preventative maintenance program
  • Become the “subject matter expert” on the operation of our building systems, leading the operation, maintenance and improvements of those systems
  • Develop and maintain specific engineering processes and safety procedures for the company
  • Monitor and adjust all mechanical equipment to keep our buildings safe and comfortable for our employees and tenants
  • Troubleshoot issues with internal facilities and external vendors
  • Respond immediately to emergency situations of employee/tenant concerns
  • Inspect grounds, buildings and equipment for unsafe or malfunctioning conditions
  • Maintain and operate all life safety/fire systems, including inspections, testing and working with security to communicate 
  • Inspect new installations for compliance with building codes and safety regulations, while also being a resource to Real Estate in the acquisition and disposition of buildings
  • Assist in managing vendors in the completion of work orders and service in a timely manner
  • Work with other departments (retail, IT, HR, security, etc.) in making each facility a place everyone is proud to come work in
  • Participate in an on-call rotation for after-hours emergency response 
  • Serve as a mentor and provide training to other staff and more junior team members
  • Other duties as assigned.

What am I bringing?

Experience/Education:

  • 4+ years’ experience in building engineering and maintenance in an office or retail setting, preferably including a thorough understanding of and experience working on HVAC (cooling towers, VAV boxes, distribution, pumps, motors, etc.), building automation systems, plumbing, elevators, fire and life safety equipment, preventive maintenance, electrical and general building/grounds maintenance.
  • The ability to interpret mechanical and electrical blueprints and schematics.
  • Valid Colorado driver’s license and the ability to travel between branch locations in the Denver Metro area, with your own dependable vehicle or one of our fleet vehicles.
  • Enthusiastic and energetic and friendly – You will be the main contact and “face” for many of our outside relationships and to our internal clients (our branches), and anything less than a can-do, helpful attitude will not suffice. You need strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Sense of urgency and ownership – We are a fun, fast-moving and busy group that is growing. We need a teammate who takes ownership and has the desire to get things done.
  • Flexibility - No two days will be the same, so the ability to go with the flow is a must. Know that your daily plan might get changed and be adaptable


Skills and Abilities:

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office 
  • Angus ticketing system experience a plus
  • Exhibits strong verbal and written communication skills 
  • Ability to learn and demonstrate that learning on the job
  • Detail oriented with strong organizational and time management skills 
  • Must maintain high-level of confidentiality 
  • Can be accountable for the completion of assigned deliverables with little day-to-day management
  • Uses judgement, but supervision required for overall tasks
  • Experienced understanding of the business line and a basic understanding of specialized discipline.
  • Able to handle problems that are difficult, but typically not complex
  • A desire to learn and grow in the Real Estate/Facilities field

 

What is the work environment like, and are there physical requirements for this role?

  • Typically a dispersed flexible team environment both on Westerra campus and remote
  • Local travel to Westerra branches, offices and corporate owned real estate sites
  • Stooping, climbing, standing and the ability to lift 25-50lbs 

Salary: In addition to the starting hourly rate of $30.00-$35.00, this role is also eligible for Westerra’s self-funding reward plan. This plan pays out a cash incentive annually if the company hits specific criteria tied to our financial goals and you will have a direct impact on the outcome of those results!
