Job description

About Us

Propel builds technology that strengthens the social safety net in America. We envision a future where every American has the tools and resources they need to thrive.

The safety net’s strength depends not just on funding, but delivery. Propel exists to dramatically improve how government benefits are delivered. Managing SNAP benefits, picking a D-SNP plan, or protecting against EBT theft should feel as seamless as Apple Pay or Netflix.

Governments struggle to build modern, scalable user experiences. We don’t.

Over 5 million Americans trust Propel today. We’ve grown revenue 35% YoY and are reinventing entire benefit categories, including Medicare, around the real needs of low-income Americans. We’re building a high-growth, high-ceiling, sustainable for-profit company where impact drives revenue.

The Role

Propel is launching new products that expand how we help people save money and access essential services. We’re looking for a Product Marketing Manager to help bring these products to market and grow their reach.

This role will focus on consumer products and features that connect SNAP recipients with ways to save on everyday essentials and access healthcare—from grocery and retail offers to tools that help people navigate Medicare coverage. You’ll develop positioning and messaging, shape go-to-market and ongoing marketing strategies, and partner closely with Product, Lifecycle, Growth, Research, and business leads to drive adoption and repeat engagement. You’ll report to the Director of Product Marketing.

What You’ll Do

  • Build a deep understanding of our audiences—their needs, motivations, perceptions, and sources of confusion—and use those insights to shape product and marketing decisions.

  • Define and test differentiated positioning, value propositions, naming, and messaging.

  • Write clear, compelling customer-facing copy for product launches and lifecycle communications.

  • Lead go-to-market and lifecycle plans that drive discovery, activation, and repeat engagement.

  • Bring audience and market insight into product development, from early strategy through launch and iteration.

  • Define success measures, design experiments, and use adoption, engagement, conversion, and revenue data to evaluate impact and adjust the strategy.

What You Bring

  • 5+ years of experience in product marketing or a closely related role, ideally in a consumer technology environment.

  • Exceptional writing skills and the ability to make complex products clear, compelling, and trustworthy.

  • A track record of developing positioning and messaging and leading go-to-market strategy for new or evolving products.

  • Hands-on experience writing lifecycle communications that support onboarding, engagement, retention, or reactivation.

  • Strong audience orientation and a practical approach to using qualitative and quantitative insights to make decisions.

  • A track record of setting measurable goals, designing experiments, and using adoption, engagement, conversion, and revenue data to evaluate impact.

  • Comfort operating autonomously in a fast-moving environment, creating structure from ambiguity, adapting as priorities shift, and building buy-in across teams.

Especially Helpful

  • Experience marketing products in benefits, healthcare, Medicare, financial technology, or another complex or highly regulated consumer category.

At Propel, you'll enjoy:

  • Meaningful work and a strong shared sense of mission

  • Remote-friendly work environment with a dog-friendly office in Downtown Brooklyn. The team meets in-person for optional retreats a few times per year.

  • 20 Days of PTO

  • 4% 401K match

  • $10k lifetime spend towards Carrot Fertility

  • Excellent Medical, Dental and Vision options

  • Other health and mental health focused benefits and perks

  • Propel builds compensation bands referencing the 75th percentile of compensation for companies like us. Expected compensation for the role as scoped is $125,000 - $175,000 and will be based on how a candidate matches to our internal leveling guide.

Additional Considerations:

  • We are committed to building a diverse and inclusive team, and welcome applicants from all backgrounds and abilities.

  • We're currently accepting applications from the states we have an established entity, which includes California, Colorado, District of Columbia, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Texas, Virginia, and Washington.

  • Background Check Requirement: For roles with access to confidential employee or customer information, a background check may be conducted following a conditional offer. All background checks are handled in accordance with applicable laws, including the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA).
