Level Data

In K–12, data is everywhere but it's not always accurate, connected, or actionable. We give leadership teams and administrators data they can trust: Standardized, validated, and seamlessly aligned across systems. By connecting every point of information—from enrollment and attendance to IEP service minutes and districtwide purchases—to strategic goals, we equip leadership teams with the insights they need to measure progress, align stakeholders, and maximize student impact. With our tools, educators gain not only visibility, but the confidence to make informed decisions that drive meaningful, measurable outcomes.

Job description

Job Summary

At Level Data, we build the data infrastructure that K-12 education runs on. For twenty years, our platforms have connected the disparate systems inside schools and state agencies - student information, educator credentials, special programs, instructional spend - into a single reliable picture that leaders can act on. Our software supports more than 1,800 districts and 20 state agencies across 48+ states, touching the educational experience of over 7 million students. Our fully remote team of engineers, data specialists, and former educators build products that reduce administrative burden and turn fragmented education data into evidence for smarter decisions.

The Engineering organization delivers the systems state education agencies depend on to manage their educator workforce and oversee the districts they serve. We build at the state level, where a single deployment carries every educator record, every district submission, and every compliance deadline in the state - which means reliability, auditability, and the security of sensitive personnel and student data are engineering requirements, not afterthoughts. Our platforms are how states respond to educator shortages at scale, keep credentialing current as requirements shift, and maintain visibility into district performance.

This role is on the Talent team, which delivers teacher licensure and credentialing, district and school accreditation, statewide teacher evaluation aligned to state frameworks, and talent transparency through our statewide educator job board. The team owns the workflows that move an educator from application to classroom, and the reporting that gives agencies confidence in the quality and completeness of what's underneath.

The Senior Software Engineer will report to the Software Engineering Manager.

What You'll Do:

  • Serve as the technical standard bearer for the team, setting the quality bar through your own contributions and code reviews and holding the team to it as we scale across new state deployments.
  • Design, build, and own features end to end across a C#/.NET and SQL Server core, extending into React and Node (TypeScript) with Postgres on our newer products.
  • Break down large or ambiguous technical problems into approachable chunks the team can execute against, partnering with your Product Owner to sequence the work against roadmap commitments and state compliance deadlines.
  • Develop deep knowledge of the team's technical estate, including the integrations that move educator, district, and evaluation data between state systems, and understand how the pieces fit together.
  • Act as a technical resource across the team, unblocking teammates and keeping delivery moving without becoming a bottleneck yourself.
  • Collaborate multi-functionally with Product, Customer Success, and go-to-market partners, hearing customer problems firsthand and bringing an engineering perspective to what we should build, not only how we should build it.
  • Proactively find opportunities for optimization and efficiency across the systems you own, improving availability, performance, and the day-to-day experience of the agencies who depend on them
  • Contribute to estimation and planning, voicing recommendations, feedback, and solutions from a technical perspective and aligning to overall project goals to deliver on time and in scope.
  • Participate fully as a member of a self-managing Scrum team, committing to delivery alongside your teammates and sharing in team responsibilities including production support.

Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum 5 years of professional software engineering experience.

  • Working knowledge of a major public cloudprovider;we build in Azure, and AWS or Google Cloud experience translates well.
  • Experience delivering at pace in an Agile team environment, including source control, CI/CD, automated testing, and production support.
  • Ability to break down any technical problem into discrete steps as part of a credible solution plan, and to guide teammates toward solutions with questions rather than answers.
  • A collaborator who believes in communal ownership of the work, shares knowledge freely, and helps others rise to the standard they set

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working across both greenfield and legacy codebases, with comfort modernizing systems incrementally rather than by rewrite.
  • Demonstrated history of mentoring engineers and raising the technical bar on a team.
  • Experience applying AI/GenAI tooling to increase development and support efficiency.
  • Above-average written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain a technical tradeoff to a Product Owner or a customer without flattening it or burying them in it.
  • Genuine curiosity about the customer's problem and the business behind it, and a desire to work closely with the people closest to both.
