Job description

About the Role

We're looking for a Senior SDET (Software Development Engineer in Testing) to elevate engineering quality across Aplazo. This is an engineering role—you'll write production-grade code and maintain automated tests independently; improve existing suites and coverage in your own area, adapt and improve test plans for medium/large features, execute end-to-end with little guidance and give clear feedback to engineers on quality.

You're not a QA gatekeeper. You're an engineer who's passionate about quality and believes the best way to achieve it is by empowering every engineer to test better. You'll build the tools, frameworks, and practices that make quality a natural part of how we work.

You lead quality initiatives for your squad and mentor engineers on testing practices.

What You'll Do

  • Mentor engineers on quality — Pair with engineers to improve their testing practices; TDD, and test design

  • Own test strategy — Define testing approaches (unit, integration, contract, e2e) for your squad

  • Write code — Build production-grade automation, testing tools & test scripts

  • Drive quality metrics — Instrument and track quality signals (coverage, flakiness, test times, defect rates); use data to prioritize improvements

  • Leverage AI for quality — Use AI to generate tests, identify coverage gaps, and accelerate quality feedback loops

  • Shift quality left — Help engineers catch issues earlier through better design, testability coaching, and fast feedback

What We're Looking For

Technical

  • 3 - 5+ years as a software engineer or SDET

  • Strong programming skills—you will write production code, not just test scripts (Java, selenium, cucumber, Appium (for mobile test), RestAssured (for API testing))

  • Deep expertise in test architecture: unit, integration, contract, and e2e testing strategies

  • Proficient with CI/CD, integration and test automation with Jenkins pipelines and GitHub Actions for solution builds and deployments.

  • Familiar with our stack or similar: Java/Spring, Angular/Flutter, AWS, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Datadog, Postman, Bruno and JMeter

AI Fluency

  • Uses AI tools to generate test cases, identify edge cases, and accelerate test development

  • Applies AI to detect flaky tests, analyze coverage gaps, and prioritize testing efforts

  • Builds or champions AI-powered quality tools for the team

  • Stays current on AI-assisted testing capabilities and best practices

Quality Philosophy

  • Believes engineers should own quality—your job is to enable them, not replace them

  • Thinks about testability during design, not just after implementation

  • Pragmatic about test coverage—you optimize for confidence

  • Understands testing and when to break the rules

Leadership & Communication

  • Experience in coaching engineers and changing team practices

  • Writes clear documentation and runbooks

  • Fluent in Spanish; working knowledge of English for cross-team collaboration

Mindset

  • Engineer first, quality specialist second

  • Passionate about developer experience—you build tools people love to use

  • Strong ownership; you drive quality improvements end-to-end

  • Curious about fintech-specific quality challenges (financial accuracy, compliance, fraud)

Nice to Have

  • Experience in fintech, payments, or high-reliability systems

  • Background in mobile testing (Flutter, iOS, Android) & testing frameworks like Maestro or Patrol.

  • Performance and load testing experience

  • Contract testing (Pact) or API testing expertise

  • Contributions to open-source testing tools or frameworks

  • Experience managing a mobile device farm (Sauce Labs)

Our Stack

Languages: Java, Python
Frameworks: JUnit, TestNG, Playwright, Selenium, Appium, Maestro/Patrol
API Tooling: Postman/Bruno, Jmeter/LoadRunner, Rest Assured

CI/CD: Jenkins, GitHub Actions, CodeMagic
Infrastructure: AWS, Pulumi
Observability: DataDog
