Job description

Overview:

The Data/Integration Architect provides enterpriselevel data architecture and integration strategy across the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), Office of Information and Technology (OIT), Product Delivery Services (PDS), Benefits and Memorials (BAM), and Memorial and Benefit Services (MBS) to deliver secure, reliable, and effective Information Technology (IT) solutions that support the Department’s mission.

Responsibilities:
  • Designs data models, pipelines, and integration patterns that ensure secure, reliable, and scalable data exchange while complying with VA Enterprise Architecture (EA), security requirements, and product line strategy
  • Develop enterprise data models, including conceptual, logical, and physical models, aligned with VA EA standards.
  • Design and implement data pipelines and integration patterns across VA systems, internal APIs, and external partners.
  • Document and maintain Solution Architecture Packages, Data Dictionaries, and Data Models for VA review and approval.
  • Ensure all integrations comply with VA EA, security mandates, NIST standards, and architecture style guide (ASG).
  • Perform Analysis of Alternatives (AoA), dependency mapping, and architectural strategy development for new integrations and capabilities.
  • Support integration of BOSSE, MBMS, and VA-EISS services into the BIP Platform, contributing to VAEISS 2.0 modernization.
  • Recommend, design, and support data analytics, AI/ML data pipelines, BI solutions, and data governance frameworks.
  • Establish data baselines, define data requirements, analyze query patterns, and optimize database/data pipeline performance.
  • Provide integration strategy and coordination support needed to enable BIP tenancy and common services adoption.
  • Support documentation for system inventory (VASI), FINOPS systems, ATO artifacts, and compliance deliverables.
Qualifications:

Required:

 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in computer science or IT with 10+ years' experience
  • Experience designing and implementing data pipelines and integration patterns across multiple platforms and systems (e.g., VAEISS, BOSSE, MBMS).
  • Demonstrated experience producing Solution Architecture Packages, dependency maps, and Analysis of Alternatives (AoA).
  • Experience integrating data and services into enterprise cloud platforms (e.g., VAEC / BIP).
  • Experience supporting compliance artifacts such as ATO documentation, VASI system inventory updates, and data governance frameworks.
  • Experience working in Agile environments (Scrum, SAFe), supporting PI Planning, backlog strategy, and crossteam architectural alignment
  • Expertise in data modeling tools, ETL/ELT pipelines, data orchestration, and performance optimization.
  • Strong knowledge of data governance, metadata management, baselining, lineage tracking, and authoritative data integration.
  • Experience with REST services and JSON data format
  • Skilled in mapping dependencies, designing reusable integration patterns, and ensuring alignment with security, compliance, and operational constraints.
  • Ability to collaborate across Product Lines, System Teams, and Scrum Teams to ensure architectural consistency
  • Public Trust

 

Preferred:

 

  • Experience with DMS, GoldenGate, Glue, Liquibase/Flyway; or VA data architecture
