In addition to supervising the Controller, this role plays a strong supporting role in fundraising and strategic planning.

Support business development and earned-revenue strategies.
Accounting, Audit & Compliance
Oversee the monthly close and balance sheet reconciliation process, including ensuring all material accounts are reconciled timely, adequately supported, and independently reviewed.
Oversee semi-monthly payroll approval, including payroll changes, gross pay, benefit deductions, retirement contributions, payroll taxes, and related payroll journal entries.
Review and approve journal entries, restricted and conditional revenue, net asset releases, and related supporting schedules.
Make technical accounting decisions and provide final review of higher-risk areas.
Oversee accounting functions, including payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, reconciliations, grant tracking, and restricted-funding analysis.
Lead the annual audit; liaise with external auditors and the Board Finance Committee; oversee Form 990 preparation and other compliance requirements, including contracts, 1099s, and investment activity.
Establish, monitor, and strengthen internal controls, finance policies, and approval workflows to safeguard organizational assets.

Oversee banking, insurance, payment systems, contracts, state registrations, legal coordination, recurring compliance obligations, and key external finance partners.
Continuously strengthen finance policies, procedures, controls, and documentation to support compliance and sustainable growth without creating unnecessary complexity.
Grants & Contributed and Earned Revenue
Lead the financial tracking and management of all grants, including monitoring expenditures, analyzing financial data, and ensuring spending aligns with funder agreements and reporting requirements to ensure high quality stewardship.
Partner with the Chief Development Officer on multi-year revenue modeling and planning and scenario modeling.
Partner with Development to integrate fundraising pipeline projections, grant payment schedules, and cash flow forecasting into organizational planning.
In collaboration with the Controller, prepare project budgets for grant proposals and funding requests, and produce grant financial reports for major donors, corporations, and foundations.

Set clear goals, priorities, expectations, and accountability, and provide regular supervision, coaching, feedback, and performance support.
Help direct reports manage workload, deadlines, cross-functional responsibilities, and competing priorities, and support their professional development and role clarity.
Build a Finance team culture that is collaborative, organized, responsive, and grounded in service to the mission.
Ensure external vendors and consultants are well-managed, cost-effective, and aligned with organizational needs.
