Job Summary

POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the direct supervision of the Practice Manager and Service Director, performs duties of technical assistance/administrative support. Duties include patient testing, contact lens insertion and removal training; as well as assisting with various administrative duties within the Optometry Department.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

- Performs contact lens instruction, including insertion and removal training on patients
- Performs Administrative functions, covering front desk, checking in patients, etc.
- Sets up and cleans examination and test rooms according to infection control standards
- Insures that equipment is working properly and notifies appropriate personnel when a problem is identified
- Performs auto-refraction and topography testing
- Maintains adequate supplies of medical/ophthalmic supplies in exam rooms
- Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide services appropriate to the age of the patients served in the service
- Sterilization of soft and hard contact lenses in accordance with the infection control standards
- Complies with all state, federal and local regulations and laws governing the performance of this
position within this department.
- Adheres to all policies and procedures, including confidentiality of patient and employee information, and attends annual in-service education.
- Maintain patient confidentiality at all times, by phone, in discussion and by electronic distribution of information.
- Perform other projects as assigned by Manager or physicians.
- Adheres to MEE Standards of Behavior.

Qualifications

Education High School Diploma or Equivalent required Can this role accept experience in lieu of a degree? No Licenses and Credentials Experience Optometry/Ophthalmology Experience 1-2 years preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities - Proficiency in performing various eye-related tests and using diagnostic equipment. - Familiarity with electronic health records (EHR) systems is desirable. - Excellent verbal and written communication skills to interact effectively with patients and colleagues. - Strong customer service skills to provide a welcoming and compassionate environment for patients. - Keen attention to detail when recording patient information, performing tests, and assisting with procedures. - Willingness to work collaboratively in a team-based healthcare setting.
