Who We Are

Ameelio is a nonprofit tech startup that builds free digital solutions for justice systems to advance rehabilitation and human connection. We develop modern communications and learning technology that is disrupting the exploitative prison telecom industry.  Our products ensure that incarcerated people stay connected to their loved ones and access education that prepares them for reentry.

Since our founding, we’ve launched the nation’s first free prison video conferencing platform, expanded into correctional facilities across 9 states, and been recognized by TIME’s 100 Most Influential Companies, Fast Company, and The Washington Post. Our funders include Reid Hoffman, Jack Dorsey, Schmidt Futures, and Arnold Ventures.

We’re growing quickly—and we know that some of the best people don’t fit into a single job description. If you're excited about our mission but don’t see a role that matches your background, we encourage you to apply here. We’re always looking for builders, strategists, technologists, and mission-driven doers to help us reshape the justice system.

Why Apply

If you thrive in fast-moving, high-impact environments, are passionate about civic technology, and want to contribute your skills toward justice reform, we’d love to hear from you.

We are particularly interested in individuals with experience in:

  • Government Technology: Technologists with expertise in delivering civic technology at the state and/or federal level.
  • Public Policy & Research: Advocates and policy experts who understand the intersection of technology, criminal justice reform, and legislative change.
  • Partnerships & Growth: Relationship builders who can engage with government agencies, funders, and mission-aligned organizations.
  • Product & Engineering: Software engineers, UX/UI designers, and product managers who can build and scale user-centered tech solutions.
  • Operations & Implementation: Logistics specialists, account managers, or IT deployment experts who can bring new facilities online and ensure smooth implementation.

We don’t require prior experience in the criminal justice space—just a deep curiosity, adaptability, and a strong drive to tackle systemic challenges with technology.

What You Can Expect

Our Culture

  • Your work will directly contribute to dismantling an exploitative industry and providing essential services to incarcerated individuals and their families.
  • We are a growing startup, which means everyone has a high degree of autonomy and ownership over their work. There are ample opportunities to lead projects.

  • Remote-first with flexible work arrangements
  • Comprehensive health insurance with dental/vision
  • Generous 401(K) retirement matching contribution
  • Competitive salaries
