Job description

This is a remote position.

We’re looking for an analytical and detail-oriented Senior Estimator to join our client's growing team. If you thrive in fast-paced, project-focused environments and enjoy turning technical specifications into accurate and competitive bids, this role is for you. You’ll manage the core estimating functions—developing comprehensive project estimates, analyzing tender documents, and coordinating with subcontractors—while ensuring every bid is precise and aligned with our client's strategic goals.

As you demonstrate your expertise, you’ll take on broader responsibilities in overseeing the pre-construction process for complex projects, analyzing market trends, and developing strategic bid approaches. This is an excellent opportunity for a seasoned professional eager to become a key strategic leader who combines analytical precision, deep industry knowledge, and strong negotiation skills to secure successful project tenders.

Key Responsibilities

Estimating & Bid Management

  • Plan, develop, and oversee all aspects of the estimating and pre-construction process from initial bid review to subcontract finalization.

  • Conduct comprehensive analysis of tender drawings, identifying key design considerations, construction challenges, and value engineering opportunities.

  • Prepare detailed and accurate estimates covering all project costs, including materials, labor, equipment, and subcontractor bids.

  • Coordinate and present complex bids to management and clients, clearly articulating the project scope, timeline, and cost structure.

  • Ensure the accurate and seamless transfer of project information to the Project Management team upon a successful bid.

Data & Subcontractor Management

  • Develop and maintain the Master Tender List, ensuring all bid opportunities are tracked and prioritized.

  • Cultivate and manage strong relationships with subcontractors, building a reliable network of partners for various project needs.

  • Maintain an organized and accurate database of project costs, supplier pricing, and historical bid data for future reference.

Coordination & Client Relations

  • Collaborate with internal teams, architects, and engineers to ensure bids are comprehensive, competitive, and accurate.

  • Serve as a key point of contact during the pre-construction phase, utilizing excellent client presentation and subcontractor negotiation abilities.

  • Ensure all bid documentation is clear, professional, and aligned with company and industry standards.

Tools & Technology

  • Utilize advanced Microsoft Excel functions (e.g., complex formulas, pivot tables, data analysis) for cost tracking, data analysis, and bid preparation.

  • Leverage estimating software and tools to enhance accuracy and efficiency in the bidding process.

Analysis & Reporting

  • Track and analyze market trends, material costs, and competitive developments in the construction industry to inform bidding strategies.

  • Report regularly on bid status, project pipelines, and cost analyses to senior management.

  • Provide actionable insights and recommendations based on post-bid analysis to continuously improve the estimating process.

Requirements

Required Qualifications

  • Progressive experience in construction estimating, with a strong track record of managing complex bids from strategy to submission.

  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel, including the ability to build and manage complex spreadsheets for cost tracking, data analysis, and bid preparation.

  • Deep understanding of the pre-construction process, tender analysis, strategic bid development, and subcontractor coordination.

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret technical drawings, assess construction methodologies, and accurately evaluate costs.

  • Comprehensive knowledge of construction industry standards, contractual terms, and market conditions.

  • Strong client presentation and negotiation skills, with experience interfacing effectively with clients, management, and subcontractors.

  • Proven ability to manage multiple complex projects and tight deadlines simultaneously.
