POSITION SUMMARY

University Health Partners of Hawaii is the Faculty Practice of the John A. Burns School of Medicine (JABSOM). In conjunction with the State of Hawaii's Department of Health - Alcohol and Drug Abuse Division, JABSOM and UHP are expanding Hawaii UTelehealth (HUT) to provide access to no-cost addiction medicine treatment for the State of Hawaii. Our new Telehealth Addiction Medicine program is founded on the belief that everyone deserves a path to recovery. We aim to provide evidence-based, patient-centered, and non-judgmental care for individuals with substance use disorders (SUDs), meeting them wherever they are in their journey. We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Physician to be a core member of our clinical team.

We are looking for a compassionate and autonomous Physician (MD/DO) to provide high-quality, direct clinical care to patients in our innovative, 100% remote Addiction Medicine program. The Physician will be responsible for conducting comprehensive patient evaluations, developing individualized treatment plans, and prescribing Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) via telehealth. This role is ideal for a clinician who is passionate about addiction medicine, skilled in virtual care delivery, and committed to providing patient-centered, evidence-based treatment to underserved populations.

Location: MUST RESIDE in Hawaii, 100% Remote. 

This is an on-call position, Monday to Friday, between 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM. 

 

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

Education/Training/Experience 

  • Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree from an accredited medical school.
  • Current, unrestricted medical license to practice in the State of Hawaii.
  • DEA registration and Hawaii NED license.

Preferred:

  • Board Certification or Eligibility in Psychiatry, Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, or Addiction Medicine.
  • Minimum of 1 year of clinical experience in addiction medicine, psychiatry, or a related field, with experience in telehealth.

Skills Knowledge

  • Demonstrated knowledge of evidence-based practices in addiction treatment, including pharmacotherapy and behavioral interventions.
  • Strong assessment, diagnostic, and therapeutic skills in the area of addiction and mental health.
  • Proficiency in using electronic health records (EHR) systems and telehealth video software, and other digital health tools.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to work autonomously and manage a diverse patient caseload in a remote setting.
  • Strong commitment to patient-centered care, cultural competency, and reducing health disparities.
  • A dedicated team player who communicates clearly and respectfully with all members of the care team.
  • Understanding of HIPAA regulations and patient confidentiality.
