Job description

Physical Security Technical Consultant

Location: Remote – Ireland / UK

Travel: Frequent job site visits required. Minimal overnight travel required.

Reporting Line: Technical Design Lead

Purpose

The Physical Security Technical Consultant is the physical security subject matter expert responsible for supporting the design, delivery and quality assurance of security systems throughout the project lifecycle. Working closely with design teams, project delivery teams, clients and external consultants, the role ensures that physical security solutions are effectively integrated into projects, installations comply with approved requirements, and security objectives are achieved in line with client standards and industry best practice.

Major Responsibilities

  • Lead the coordination of physical security requirements during project design, partnering with architects, civil and structural engineers, MEP consultants and client teams to ensure security requirements are integrated into overall project designs.

  • Participate in multidisciplinary design reviews, identifying design conflicts, constructability concerns and opportunities to enhance physical security outcomes.

  • Review architectural, civil and landscape designs to validate the incorporation of physical security measures including perimeter protection, gates, barriers, access control, CCTV coverage and security operations facilities.

  • Provide technical expertise on CPTED principles, layered security approaches and security-in-depth strategies during project planning and design development.

  • Ensure security requirements are effectively coordinated with site circulation, egress requirements, utilities, landscaping and operational considerations.

  • Support design teams with practical recommendations that balance security, operational, aesthetic and budget requirements while resolving security-related design challenges.

  • Review and assess RFIs, technical submittals, shop drawings, product data and equipment specifications to ensure compliance with project requirements.

  • Coordinate drawing revisions, project updates and design handover activities to support successful project delivery.

  • Conduct QA/QC site inspections to verify installation compliance with approved designs, specifications and established security baselines.

  • Produce site assessment reports, non-conformance reports, punch lists and corrective action recommendations to support quality outcomes.

  • Capture and share field feedback, lessons learned and installation challenges to drive continuous improvement in design delivery.

  • Own or support the delivery of security consultancy services, ensuring alignment with client requirements, regulations and applicable standards.

  • Prepare and present high-quality consultancy reports, technical studies, cost analyses and procurement-related recommendations.

  • Lead client-facing meetings and workshops, facilitating discussions and ensuring accurate documentation of actions and outcomes.

  • Apply security risk management methodologies and recommend mitigation measures based on risk assessment findings.

  • Communicate technical, strategic and design information effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders through reports, presentations and formal submissions.

  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with internal stakeholders, clients and senior business leaders across multiple concurrent projects throughout the EMEA region.

  • Drive design workgroups and maintain the confidentiality and integrity of client information at all times.

Education

  • Third-level qualification in Electronics is highly desirable.

Experience & Knowledge

  • 3-5 years' experience working with IP video and access-controlled enterprise security systems.

  • Experience in security system design and telecommunications environments.

  • Experience using CAD and Bluebeam, with an understanding of BIM.

  • Knowledge of leading security platforms including Lenel, Genetec, AMAG, Software House, Milestone and Avigilon.

  • Understanding of physical security principles including perimeter protection, gates, fencing, barriers, CPTED methodologies, PAS ratings and Secure by Design principles.

  • Knowledge of EN and BS standards for security design and installation.

  • Understanding of door ironmongery and physical security infrastructure requirements.

  • Experience within the data centre sector would be advantageous.
