Job description

About Pivotal Health

Pivotal Health is the leading technology platform that helps healthcare providers get paid fairly in an increasingly complex reimbursement landscape.

Today, many providers face persistent underpayment from health insurance companies, despite delivering high-quality care. While processes like IDR (Independent Dispute Resolution) were designed to promote fairness, they’re often administrative-heavy, time-consuming, and difficult to navigate without the right tools.

Pivotal Health combines software, data, and service into a seamlessly integrated, AI-driven platform that simplifies these complex reimbursement workflows. We help providers efficiently dispute underpaid claims, reduce administrative burden, and recover the reimbursement they’re entitled to; without adding more work to already stretched teams.

Our full-service IDR solution is just the starting point. We’re building solutions that enable providers to operate with clarity, control, and confidence across the reimbursement journey.

About the Role

Pivotal Health is building its Government Affairs function from the ground up.This role is the team’s first dedicated hire joining our General Counsel & Chief Government Affairs Officer. Today, the work spans a broad range of active work streams with external affairs and publicity partners, provider coalitions, federal agencies, members of Congress, and congressional staff. As Director of Advocacy, you’ll take on a key leadership role for that portfolio and help us shift from reactive approach to engagement toward proactive, strategic advocacy.

Pivotal Health is among the ten largest participants in the IDR process based on government-released data, and growing quickly. Policymakers are taking notice and have engaged to hear our perspective on active issues. This role will help make sure Pivotal Health's voice is heard clearly and consistently as we grow.

What You’ll Do

  • Own and coordinate Pivotal Health’s government affairs workstreams, including leading calls, setting agendas, assigning follow-ups, and tracking whether commitments are completed

  • Engage directly with federal agencies (including HHS, CMS, and DOL), members of Congress, and congressional staff on healthcare programs and policy

  • Read and synthesize economic, epidemiological, and other healthcare research to identify key findings, spot weaknesses, and assess the relative strength of competing analyses, and help identify new research opportunities and initiate new research projects

  • Develop clear points of view on policy issues and advocate for them, persuading stakeholders and making the case for change

  • Help move Pivotal Health’s government affairs function from reactive work toward proactive, strategic engagement

  • Lead calls and coordinate with a wide range of stakeholders, including doctors, lawyers, CEOs, and CFOs, in group settings

  • Partner closely with the General Counsel & Chief Government Affairs Officer, internal colleagues, and external government affairs and publicity professionals to build the function’s processes and priorities from the ground up

What We’re Looking For

  • 5–7 years of experience in government affairs, public policy, or a related field

  • Federal-level government affairs or public policy experience, including direct work with federal agencies and healthcare policy

  • Direct experience engaging members of Congress or congressional staff

  • A track record of developing and advocating for a clear point of view

  • Strong project management and organizational skills, with comfort leading meetings across varied seniority levels

  • Ability to read, evaluate, and compare the strength of economic and epidemiological research

  • Comfort operating with ambiguity, building structure and process from a blank slate, and taking on hands-on tactical work alongside strategic thinking

Nice to Have

  • Experience with the No Surprises Act or the IDR process

  • Experience involving HHS, CMS, Medicare, or Medicaid

  • Prior lobbying experience
