DoD SkillBridge Internship: Construction Project Manager - Intern
SkillBridge Host Company: 11 Series Energy
SkillBridge Provider: Vets2PM LLC
Location: Remote/Hybrid (Multiple U.S. Locations - Limited or some travel required.)

Position Summary

11 Series Energy is looking for a motivated Construction Project Management Intern who wants hands-on experience supporting real-world construction and energy projects. This internship offers the opportunity to learn directly from experienced project managers while gaining exposure to project planning, scheduling, budgeting, safety, quality control, and federal construction requirements. Interns will participate in project meetings, site visits, and day-to-day project coordination activities that help keep projects moving forward. The role is designed to build practical skills, industry knowledge, and professional certifications that can serve as a foundation for a future career in construction management, engineering, or the energy industry.

The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership skills, extensive experience managing construction projects, and a thorough understanding of federal construction standards, including USACE, NAVFAC, VA, NIH, and other government agency requirements.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Manage all phases of construction projects, including planning, procurement, execution, commissioning, and closeout.
  • Develop and maintain project schedules using Primavera P6, Microsoft Project, or equivalent scheduling software.
  • Prepare and manage project budgets, forecasts, cost controls, and financial reporting.
  • Coordinate and oversee subcontractors, suppliers, consultants, and field personnel.
  • Ensure compliance with contract requirements, specifications, drawings, and applicable codes.
  • Lead project meetings with owners, government representatives, design teams, and subcontractors.
  • Identify project risks and implement mitigation strategies.
  • Review and negotiate subcontract agreements and change orders.
  • Monitor project performance, productivity, and quality metrics.
  • Ensure compliance with all OSHA, EM 385-1-1, environmental, and safety requirements.
  • Support proposal development, estimating, and preconstruction activities as required.
  • Manage project documentation including RFIs, submittals, change orders, daily reports, schedules, and closeout packages.
  • Coordinate commissioning activities and turnover documentation.
  • Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects.
  • Maintain positive client relationships and support business development efforts.

Required Qualifications

  •  Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or related field.
  •  Minimum of 7 years of construction project management experience.
  •  Demonstrated experience managing projects valued at $5 million or greater.
  •  Experience managing federal government construction projects.
  •  Strong knowledge of construction means and methods, scheduling, cost controls, and contract administration.
  •  Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and technical documents.
  •  Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and project management software.
  •  Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  •  Ability to obtain and maintain access to federal facilities.

Preferred Certifications and Credentials

Strong candidates will possess one or more of the following:

  • Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification
  • Professional Engineer (PE) License
  • USACE Construction Quality Management (CQM-C) for Contractors Certification
  • OSHA 30-Hour Construction Safety Certification
  • EM 385-1-1 Fall Protection Competent Person Training
  • EM 385-1-1 40-Hour Compliance Training
  • Certified Construction Manager (CCM)
  • LEED Accredited Professional (LEED AP)
  • NFPA 70E Electrical Safety Training
  • First Aid/CPR Certification

Desired Experience

  • U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) projects
  • Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) construction projects
  • National Institutes of Health (NIH) facilities projects
  • Department of Defense (DoD) construction programs
  • Energy conservation, renewable energy, and resiliency projects
  • Design-build and SABER contracting environments
  • Mechanical, electrical, civil, and building systems construction
  • Commissioning and facility turnover processes

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to visit active construction sites and navigate uneven terrain.
  • Ability to climb ladders, access roofs, and inspect work areas.
  • Ability to travel up to 50% as required by project assignments.
  • Ability to occasionally lift and carry up to 25 pounds.

Compensation target if hired after the internship is likely between $83K - $130K depending on many factors - this is an estimate, not a guaranteed range.
