Senior Lead Business Analyst – Risk & Compliance

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Senior Lead Business Analyst – Risk & Compliance to join our growing consulting team. This role will work closely with financial services clients to define business requirements, translate regulatory and compliance needs into functional solutions, and support the successful delivery of complex risk and compliance technology initiatives.

The ideal candidate will have 10+ years of experience as a Business Analyst, with strong expertise in financial crime, risk, and compliance domains, particularly AML, sanctions, transaction monitoring, fraud, or trade surveillance.

This is a client-facing role requiring strong analytical, documentation, communication, and stakeholder-management skills. Experience with project or delivery management is highly desirable, as the individual may also support delivery planning, resource allocation, project coordination, and team management.


Key Responsibilities

Business Analysis & Requirements Management

  • Lead business analysis activities across complex risk, compliance, and financial crime transformation programs.
  • Work directly with clients and business stakeholders to understand business challenges, regulatory requirements, operational processes, and technology needs.
  • Conduct requirements-gathering sessions, stakeholder interviews, workshops, and process assessments.
  • Translate business and regulatory requirements into clear, actionable functional requirements.
  • Develop comprehensive Business Requirements Documents (BRDs), Functional Specifications Documents (FSDs), user stories, process flows, use cases, and acceptance criteria.
  • Analyze current-state processes and identify opportunities for process improvement, automation, and technology enablement.
  • Define future-state processes and ensure alignment between business objectives and technology solutions.
  • Partner with architects, developers, QA teams, product owners, compliance SMEs, and project managers throughout the delivery lifecycle.
  • Ensure requirements are clearly understood, documented, traceable, and validated throughout the project.

Risk & Compliance Domain Expertise

  • Apply strong knowledge of financial crime, risk, and regulatory compliance to technology and transformation initiatives.
  • Experience in one or more of the following areas is highly desirable:
  • Anti-Money Laundering (AML)
  • Know Your Customer (KYC)
  • Sanctions screening
  • Transaction monitoring
  • Fraud detection and prevention
  • Trade surveillance
  • Financial crime investigations
  • Regulatory compliance
  • Risk management
  • Understand regulatory and operational challenges faced by banks, financial institutions, fintechs, and other regulated organizations.
  • Work with compliance and risk stakeholders to translate regulatory requirements into system and functional requirements.
  • Support implementation, enhancement, or modernization of financial crime and compliance platforms.

Compliance Technology & Platforms

  • Experience with NICE Actimize is highly desirable but not mandatory.
  • Candidates with experience in other risk, AML, sanctions, fraud, or compliance technology platforms will also be considered.
  • Evaluate existing solutions and processes and identify opportunities for optimization, automation, and modernization.
  • Support configuration, enhancement, integration, migration, and implementation initiatives from a business and functional perspective.
  • Work closely with technical teams to ensure that business requirements are appropriately translated into technology solutions.

Client & Stakeholder Management

  • Serve as a trusted business analyst and subject-matter resource for client stakeholders.
  • Facilitate meetings and workshops with business, compliance, risk, operations, and technology teams.
  • Communicate complex business and technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Manage stakeholder expectations and proactively identify and resolve requirement-related issues.
  • Present findings, recommendations, process designs, and solution requirements to senior client stakeholders.
  • Build strong, long-term relationships with client teams.

Delivery & Project Management

  • Support the project manager and delivery leadership with planning and execution of project activities.
  • Assist with resource allocation, delivery planning, task management, timelines, dependencies, and project coordination.
  • Track requirements, deliverables, risks, issues, and dependencies across workstreams.
  • Coordinate with distributed onshore and offshore teams to ensure timely delivery.
  • Support project governance, status reporting, steering committee preparation, and client communications.
  • Help ensure projects remain aligned with agreed scope, timelines, quality expectations, and client objectives.
  • Prior experience managing workstreams or small teams is a strong advantage.

Testing & Implementation Support

  • Develop and review functional test scenarios and acceptance criteria.
  • Partner with QA teams during system, integration, regression, and user acceptance testing.
  • Support defect triage and resolution by clarifying business requirements and expected functionality.
  • Participate in implementation, deployment, go-live, and post-production support activities.
  • Validate that delivered solutions meet defined business and regulatory requirements.

Required Qualifications

  • 10+ years of experience in Business Analysis, preferably in financial services, banking, fintech, or consulting.
  • Proven experience working as a Lead or Senior Business Analyst on complex enterprise technology initiatives.
  • Strong domain experience in risk and compliance.
  • Hands-on experience in at least one of the following:
  • AML
  • Sanctions
  • Transaction Monitoring
  • Trade Surveillance
  • Fraud/Risk Management
  • Financial Crime Compliance
  • Strong experience preparing BRDs, FSDs, requirements specifications, process flows, user stories, and functional documentation.
  • Demonstrated experience working directly with clients and senior business stakeholders.
  • Strong understanding of the software development and project delivery lifecycle.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to translate complex business and regulatory requirements into clear functional requirements.
  • Experience working with cross-functional and geographically distributed teams.
