Newfold Digital is seeking for a technically strong and hands-on Engineering Manager who can lead high-performing engineering teams while continuing to provide strong technical direction. The role combines people leadership, architecture, engineering excellence, product delivery, and AI-first development practices.
Who we are.
The ideal candidate is a strong technology leader who can translate business and product requirements into scalable technical solutions, make sound architectural decisions, mentor engineers, and drive teams toward high-quality and predictable delivery.
A key expectation of this role is to champion AI-first software development, enabling engineering teams to leverage AI across the development lifecycle while maintaining high standards of quality, security, reliability, and maintainability.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Leadership & Architecture
- Provide strong technical leadership and direction across the engineering team, while remaining sufficiently hands-on to guide complex technical decisions.
- Design, develop, and scale complex, high-performance systems using appropriate architectural patterns for both horizontal and vertical scalability.
- Own and influence architectural decisions, technical strategy, technology choices, and engineering standards.
- Translate product and business requirements into clear technical plans, architecture, milestones, and execution strategies.
- Evaluate technical trade-offs across scalability, performance, reliability, security, maintainability, and time-to-market.
- Identify opportunities for modernization, simplification, automation, and technology adoption.
AI-First Engineering
- Establish and champion AI-first software development practices across the engineering organization.
- Drive the effective use of LLMs and AI-powered development tools across the software lifecycle — including requirements analysis, architecture, coding, code modernization, testing, debugging, documentation, code reviews, and knowledge discovery.
- Establish engineering best practices for using AI while maintaining appropriate standards for code quality, security, privacy, reliability, and architectural integrity.
- Identify opportunities to use AI and intelligent automation to significantly improve developer productivity, engineering velocity, and software quality.
- Encourage experimentation with emerging AI technologies and help the team move successful experiments into reliable production solutions.
People Leadership
- Lead, mentor, and grow a high-performing team of engineers.
- Establish a culture of ownership, accountability, continuous learning, technical excellence, and collaboration.
- Provide regular technical and career mentorship and help engineers grow into increasingly larger responsibilities.
- Participate in hiring, team building, performance management, and succession planning.
- Create an environment where engineers are empowered to make decisions while maintaining strong technical and delivery standards.
Engineering Excellence & Delivery
- Drive engineering teams toward predictable, high-quality delivery while maintaining a strong focus on quality, reliability, and customer impact.
- Establish and continuously improve development practices around code quality, unit testing, automated testing, Git, CI/CD, code reviews, and release management.
- Work effectively within Agile/Scrum development processes and continuously improve team execution.
- Identify and remove technical, organizational, and process bottlenecks that impact engineering velocity.
- Establish appropriate metrics and mechanisms to improve engineering productivity, quality, reliability, and delivery predictability.
Cross-Functional Leadership
- Partner closely with Product, Design, Architecture, DevOps, Security, Data, and other engineering teams to deliver high-impact products and capabilities.
- Communicate technical decisions, risks, dependencies, trade-offs, and delivery plans clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Balance short-term delivery needs with long-term architectural and engineering investments.
- Take ownership of ambiguous and complex problems and drive them to resolution.
What you'll do & how you'll make your mark.
Technical Expertise
Strong experience with modern web and software engineering technologies, including several of the following:
- Frontend: HTML5, CSS, JavaScript (ES6+), TypeScript, React, Redux, Redux Middleware, React Hooks, Next.js
- Backend: Java, PHP, Go, Python, Node.js, or equivalent backend technologies
- Architecture: Distributed systems, scalable architectures, APIs, microservices, performance optimization, event-driven systems, and asynchronous processing using messaging and streaming platforms such as Kafka or similar queueing technologies
- Engineering Practices: Unit testing, automated testing, Git, CI/CD, Jenkins
- Cloud & Infrastructure: Kubernetes, Docker, API Gateways, CDN, Service Workers, Elasticsearch, and related cloud-native technologies
- Frontend Architecture: SPAs and PWAs
- Mobile: React Native (good to have)
- Analytics: GTM, Hotjar, and similar product/customer analytics frameworks
- Design Collaboration: Familiarity with Figma, Sketch, or similar design tools is a plus
The candidate should demonstrate the ability to understand technology choices, evaluate trade-offs, learn rapidly, and guide teams across a broad technical landscape.
What We're Looking For
- 8+ years of strong software engineering experience, with demonstrated technical leadership and experience leading engineering teams or major technical initiatives.
- Strong understanding of software architecture, system design, scalability, and distributed systems.
- Demonstrated ability to lead engineers while maintaining strong technical credibility.
- Excellent conceptual, analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking capabilities.
- Strong ownership mindset with the ability to operate independently in ambiguous situations.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to produce clear, concise technical documentation and communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
- Experience working in an Agile/Scrum environment.
- Strong curiosity and openness to change, with an eagerness to work with tools and technologies outside your existing comfort zone.
- A builder's mindset — someone who is comfortable diving deep into complex technical problems when required, while enabling the team to solve problems independently.
- Passion for continuously improving engineering productivity and developer experience, particularly through AI and automation.
Why This Role Is Different
This is not a traditional people-management role. We are looking for an engineering leader who can operate at the intersection of technology, people, product, and AI.
You will be expected to:
Lead people → Shape technology → Build scalable systems → Adopt AI → Improve engineering productivity → Deliver business impact.
Why you'll love us.
