ABOUT THE ROLE

We are seeking an experienced and passionate Nature Guide to join our team at Murwangi Safari Camp, located in the heart of Arnhem Land.

Accessible only by Outback Spirit aircraft or 4WD, Murwangi offers a truly remote and immersive experience. As a Nature Guide, you’ll lead our land-based 4WD experience, travelling through this extraordinary landscape in custom safari vehicles and working closely alongside local Yolngu guides, including Traditional Owners from the nearby community of Ramingining.

Culture is at the heart of the Murwangi experience. Our Yolngu guides share their knowledge, stories and connection to Country, while you’ll bring the landscape to life through your knowledge of the Top End’s flora, fauna, ecology, geology and natural history. A key part of the role is knowing when to listen, when to contribute and how to complement the knowledge being shared, thoughtfully weaving relevant environmental context into the experience while ensuring the cultural story remains at its heart.

Guiding is your primary focus, but life at Murwangi is hands-on and varied. Tours generally operate every second day, with alternate days spent supporting the wider camp team across maintenance, groundskeeping, logistics, housekeeping and food & beverage service.

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Deliver engaging, informative and professional land-based nature experiences nearby Murwangi Safari Camp.
  • Work closely and respectfully with Yolngu guides and Traditional Owners, complementing their cultural storytelling with relevant knowledge of the Top End’s flora, fauna, ecology, geology and natural history.
  • Create warm and engaging guest interactions, confidently answering questions and adapting your delivery to different audiences.
  • Safely operate custom safari vehicles across remote terrain, transporting guests and Yolngu guides between Murwangi, Ramingining and tour locations.
  • Maintain a strong focus on safety, risk awareness and emergency response, while keeping vehicles and equipment clean, presented and operationally ready.
  • Support broader camp operations on non-guiding days, including maintenance, groundskeeping, logistics, housekeeping and food & beverage duties.

ABOUT YOU

You are a knowledgeable and engaging guide with a genuine passion for nature, particularly the landscapes and ecosystems of Australia’s Top End. You bring strong cultural awareness and respect to the role, with an understanding that the Murwangi experience is first and foremost about Yolngu culture, stories and connection to Country.

You are also adaptable, hands-on and comfortable working in a remote environment as part of a small, close-knit team.

You will ideally have:

  • Experience guiding nature-based tours, ideally in the Top End or another remote Australian environment.
  • Strong knowledge of and passion for Australian flora, fauna, ecology and natural history.
  • An understanding of Yolngu culture and the ability to build respectful, collaborative working relationships with Yolngu people and Traditional Owners.
  • Excellent communication and interpretation skills, with the confidence to engage groups and field guest questions professionally.
  • The ability to absorb local knowledge and language and support its interpretation for guests.
  • A strong safety mindset and confidence operating 4WD vehicles in remote environments.
  • Experience and willingness to work across broader camp operations, including food & beverage service, housekeeping and general maintenance.
