Job description

Summary 

The Energy Project Engineer III leads engineering work to develop and implement energy efficiency and energy production projects for customer facilities. Projects include energy efficiency upgrades, renewable energy systems, and distributed energy installations. The role is responsible for managing and conducting engineering studies, analyses, and project development, while overseeing awarded mechanical and electrical construction projects from award through design and supporting implementation. 

Qualification Requirements 

  • Extensive experience with development and/or implementation of mechanical and electrical system projects in customer facilities. 
  • Responsible for site investigations, energy-use analysis, savings calculations, cost estimates, and technical reports. 
  • Manages engineering and design activities for design-build projects. 
  • Works with customers, vendors, subcontractors, consultants, and internal teams to lead projects through development. 
  • Must possess strong written and verbal communication, analytical skills, and building systems expertise. 

Minimum Qualifications 

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or related technical field. 
  • Equivalent technical qualifications and experience in project management, building automation controls, mechanical, electrical, or HVAC systems may be considered. 
  • 5 to 10 years of experience in similar project work. 
  • Experience conducting engineering studies, analyzing energy-consuming systems, and preparing technical reports. 
  • Experience implementing facility infrastructure projects. 
  • Able to travel to customer facilities for building surveys. 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities 

  • Extensive knowledge of HVAC and mechanical system design and operation. 
  • Knowledge of utility billing systems including electric, natural gas, water, and related infrastructure. 
  • Extensive understanding of facility electrical systems and equipment. 
  • Advanced energy analysis methods for building mechanical and electrical systems. 
  • Experience developing and implementing building mechanical and electrical projects. 
  • Knowledge of measurement and verification (M&V) methods. 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Project, PowerPoint, and related business software. 
  • Excellent organization and project management skills. 
  • Strong communication and coordination skills across multiple stakeholders. 

Supervisory Responsibilities 

  • None. 

Essential Functions 

  • Lead facility and system investigations to identify energy efficiency opportunities. 
  • Lead and finalize engineering studies and analyses. 
  • Support sales teams through technical customer engagement. 
  • Lead and manage design engineering efforts for construction projects. 
  • Prepare and finalize reports and project documentation. 
  • Comply with workplace and customer-site safety requirements. 

Physical Demands 

  • Travel to customer facilities to conduct field surveys. 

Work Environment 

  • Primarily office-based with periodic site visits. Facilities may include industrial and construction environments requiring strict adherence to site safety requirements.
