COMPENSATION INFORMATION The salary range(s) represents our good faith estimate for the role at this time. While we strive to provide competitive and transparent compensation, there may be circumstances where an offer is above or outside of the listed range. We are open to discussing salary expectations with qualified candidates considering factors such as the candidate's qualifications, skills, competencies, experience and geographic location will all be considered during the hiring process.


Sr. Applications Analyst Salary range: $87,950 – $112,190

Applications Analyst II Salary range: $77,900 – $99,325

Applications Analyst I Salary range: $64,060 – $78,465 

Overview  

The Applications Analyst job family supports and maintains the applications and databases that enable critical daily operations for Southwest Power Pool. These systems have major reliability, economic, and safety impacts, making accurate and dependable application performance essential.  

All levels are responsible for troubleshooting software issues, supporting end users, resolving application and usability problems, and ensuring the effective operation of assigned systems. Analysts collaborate with IT teams, SPP departments, and external vendors to ensure business needs are met. 

Higher‑level analysts (Senior and II) operate with minimal supervision, demonstrate deeper subject‑matter expertise, and provide mentoring and guidance. Analyst I works with supervision while developing core competencies.  

Core Responsibilities  

Shared responsibilities across all levels include:  

  • Installing, configuring, maintaining, and supporting assigned application systems. 
  • Monitoring, investigating, and resolving system issues or abnormalities. 
  • Addressing customer‑reported issues in a timely manner. 
  • Participating in a 24/7/365 on‑call rotation. 
  • Multi‑tasking and supporting complex, integrated systems. 
  • Maintaining an understanding of business and technical system requirements. 
  • Participating in SDLC and project lifecycle phases (requirements, design, testing, environment support, release deployment, cross‑team coordination). 
  • Creating and maintaining technical documentation. 
  • Recommending and implementing system, process, and documentation improvements. 
  • Continuing to develop technical skills within assigned focus areas. 
  • Performing assigned tasks and special projects. 
  • Providing training to others in areas of expertise. 
  • Complying with corporate and departmental policies including SOC1 and FERC CIP controls. 

Additional responsibilities by level:  

Senior Applications Analyst  

  • Acts as subject matter expert across applications and technologies. 
  • Works with architects and developers on system architecture, security, upgrades, and improvements. 
  • Serves as deeper technical liaison across departments and vendors. 

Applications Analyst II  

  • Develops efficient, centralized methods for managing systems. 
  • Provides guidance to other team members. 

Applications Analyst I  

  • Supports systems hands‑on while developing deeper technical knowledge. 

Qualifications   

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, related field, or equivalent experience. 
  • (Senior Applications Analyst) 6 years of applicable IT application administration/support experience, or equivalent blend of education and experience.
  • (Applications Analyst II) 3 years of IT development or support experience.
  • (Applications Analyst I) No additional experience requirement beyond the bachelor’s degree.  

Preferred Qualifications 

  • (Senior and Analyst II) Two or more years of applicable utility industry experience 
  • (Senior) Basic understanding of SPP’s core business model 

Other Requirements 

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Windows, Unix, or Linux operating systems. 
  • Experience with application development/support methodologies and database management systems. 
  • Effective troubleshooting, analytical, and problem‑solving skills. 
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills. 
  • Understanding of SDLC and project lifecycle practices. 
  • Strong customer service and organizational skills. 
  • Skills in scripting, SQL, analyzing error/event logs, and data analysis (higher proficiency expected for Senior and Analyst II). 
  • Minimal travel (approximately 10%) required for all levels.
