WHO WE ARE
Since 1954, Cupertino Electric, Inc. (CEI) has been powered by people who’ve built a reputation for delivering high-profile, complex projects. Real, tangible things that alter the landscape and improve lives. And we've done it with integrity for more than 70 years. We’re problem solvers and innovation seekers. We’re team players and safety fanatics. And we're proud to be part of Quanta Services (PWR:NYSE), North America's largest employer of skilled craft labor. Because what we do is important, but how we do it is everything.

THE ENERGY TEAM
Our Energy Group at CEI builds projects from the field to the grid. Whether it’s a solar, battery storage, substation, EV charging, microgrid or converter station project, our skilled project managers, engineers and field employees deliver when it matters most. We work with customers on programs of all sizes—those spanning several smaller sites or spanning several thousand acres.  Besides building some of the nation’s largest utility-scale solar plants and installing more EV charging stations in California than any other contractor, we are dedicated to running a business that is environmentally responsible.

ABOUT THE ROLE
We are seeking a Vice President of Business Development to drive growth for our utility-scale solar EPC business. This role is both strategic and hands-on — the VP sets bid strategy and customer growth direction, while also staying personally engaged in the field: sitting across the table from customers, marking up contracts line by line, and negotiating pricing directly. You will carry deals as well as direct them.

You will own the full arc of a project's commercial life — from first customer conversation through bid strategy, proposal development, contract negotiation, and award — working hand-in-hand with our Business Development, Estimating, and Preconstruction teams.

  • Originate and develop customer relationships primarily with IPPs and developers, along with utilities and asset owners in the utility-scale solar market
  • Own and lead Quarterly Business Reviews (QBRs) with key developer and IPP accounts, tracking pipeline health, project performance, and relationship strategy
  • Travel to customer offices regularly to manage relationships, present proposals, and negotiate terms in person
  • Shepherd projects end-to-end — from early-stage conception and qualification through RFP response, contract award, and NTP handoff
  • Lead bid strategy and pricing decisions in direct partnership with Estimating and Preconstruction
  • Personally review and redline EPC contracts — pricing structures, risk allocation, schedule terms, and commercial conditions
  • Negotiate directly with customer executives and legal teams on price, scope, and contract terms
  • Partner cross-functionally with Construction Services leadership to ensure commercial commitments are constructible and align with execution capability

ABOUT YOU

  • 10+ years in solar/renewables business development, with direct EPC contract negotiation experience
  • Demonstrated track record of closing utility-scale solar EPC contracts (not just supporting the process)
  • Strong commercial/contract acumen — comfortable in the redline, not just the relationship
  • Willingness and ability to travel extensively
  • Ability to move fluidly between setting strategy and executing deals personally

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities as well as possession of any required licenses or certifications is qualifying.

Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent, Bachelor’s, Master’s

Licensure/Certifications: N/A

Experience: 10+ years in solar/renewables business development, with direct EPC contract negotiation experience
