About the role

BioNTech has an ambitious oncology portfolio and a strong record of partnering with the NHS through our landmark UK Partnership, UK oncology clinical trials programme and the NHS Cancer Vaccine Launchpad. We are now building our UK Medical Affairs organisation to support our transition to a commercial-stage oncology powerhouse.

Reporting to the UK Senior Medical Director, you will be BioNTech’s field medical scientific expert in solid tumours, leading external scientific engagement in lung cancer and potential additional indications as business needs evolve.
At BioNTech, our Senior MSLs contribute far beyond scientific exchange, blending external scientific leadership with strategic Medical Affairs project work. You will have the opportunity to shape disease strategy, influence launch readiness, support innovative research and help build an organisation capable of transforming cancer care for patients.

Your contribution:

• Act as BioNTech's scientific expert within the assigned disease area, delivering high-quality scientific exchange with healthcare professionals, scientific opinion leaders and other relevant stakeholders.
• Build and maintain trusted scientific partnerships across the UK oncology community to understand unmet medical needs, advance scientific understanding and improve patient outcomes.
• Develop and execute comprehensive stakeholder mapping and engagement plans aligned with UK and Global Medical Affairs priorities, generating medical insights that inform medical strategy and evidence generation.
• Contribute to the development and execution of disease area strategy, UK Medical Affairs plans and launch readiness activities through participation in strategic projects and cross-functional initiatives.
• Collaborate with clinical development and operations teams to support and accelerate global clinical trials executed in the UK, leveraging our UK Partnership initiatives, including study-site identification, participation in SIVs, patient-enrolment insights and smooth information exchange.
• Identify evidence gaps and scientific opportunities from external engagements to inform evidence generation planning and strategic priorities. Plan and deliver Advisory Boards, scientific education programmes and medical education activities, and represent BioNTech at scientific congresses and professional meetings.
• Maintain expert knowledge of the assigned disease area, including disease biology, biomarkers, clinical guidelines, treatment pathways, emerging science, healthcare system developments and the competitive landscape.
• Share scientific expertise and field insights across the organisation, contributing to a collaborative, innovative and high-performing Medical Affairs team.
• Ensure all activities are conducted in accordance with the ABPI Code of Practice, GCP, company policies and all applicable legal, ethical and regulatory requirements, including timely documentation of scientific interactions, medical insights and safety information.

A good match:

• An advanced degree in pharmacy, medicine, or life sciences (e.g., MD, MBBS, PharmD, PhD, MSc, or equivalent) is required, along with at least 3 years of experience in UK oncology Medical Affairs. This experience should include field medical roles with a focus on solid tumours; prior experience in lung cancer is highly desirable.
• Proven experience in supporting oncology product launches, late-stage clinical development, and contributing to clinical trials and evidence generation activities.
• Demonstrated success in building and maintaining trusted scientific partnerships with healthcare professionals, patient advocacy groups, and institutions in the UK.
• Exceptional scientific communication and presentation skills, with the ability to translate insights into actionable strategies.
• Strong self-management and project management skills to independently plan stakeholder engagements while adapting to shifting business priorities.
• A proactive and entrepreneurial mindset, driven by curiosity, resilience, and a genuine passion for innovation and advancing healthcare.
• Strategic thinking with the ability to translate insights into action.
• Strong understanding of the UK healthcare environment, clinical research and Medical Affairs.
• Highest ethical standards with strong knowledge of the ABPI Code of Practice and UK compliance environment.

Travel

This is a hybrid Medical Affairs role, with a remote working contract and a mix of in-person and remote engagement. Precise asset/ indication and site/ geographic (e.g. North UK/ South UK) split to be agreed within the team. Regular travel will be required across the UK for HCP meetings and congresses, as well as regular travel to BioNTech’s main UK office in London.
