Job description

Fluid Process Equipment, a SunSource Company, is seeking an experienced Account Manager to drive growth in our Southern Detroit/Northern Ohio territory. This isn't a typical sales role—it's a position that blends technical expertise with consultative selling to deliver real solutions for industrial customers facing complex process challenges.

You'll work at the intersection of engineering and business development, leveraging your technical knowledge and relationship-building skills to become a trusted advisor for engineers, plant managers, and procurement teams. If you thrive on solving problems, building lasting partnerships, and translating technical specifications into revenue-generating solutions, this role offers the autonomy and earning potential you're looking for.

What You'll Do

Your day-to-day will center on strategic territory management and technical consultation:

  • Meet directly with end-users—engineers, technicians, and supervisory personnel—to recommend process solutions involving pumps, filtration systems, and repair services
  • Conduct product training sessions with engineering firms that serve your customer base, positioning our solutions for their project specifications
  • Build trusted relationships with both customers and manufacturer partners, establishing yourself as the go-to resource for application expertise
  • Collaborate with Inside Sales to review specifications and develop competitive, accurate quotations
  • Provide hands-on technical support for equipment selection, operation, and maintenance
  • Plan and execute a minimum of five customer visits daily, with intentional focus on high-value opportunities
  • Maintain accurate sales forecasts and pipeline data in CRM to drive strategic territory planning
  • Expand market share by deepening penetration in existing accounts and identifying new business opportunities
  • Participate in manufacturer training programs and industry professional organizations
  • Develop weekly call plans that maximize face time with decision-makers
  •

What You Bring

Education:

  • Associate's degree in engineering, technical studies, or business (Bachelor's degree preferred)
  • Experience:

    • 4+ years of outside sales experience, ideally in industrial distribution or process equipment
    • Proven success growing territory revenue and managing complex sales cycles
    • Inside sales background is a plus but not required
    • Skills & Competencies:

      • Comfort reading and interpreting technical documents, specifications, and engineering drawings
      • Ability to identify and engage key decision-makers within customer organizations
      • Strong interpersonal skills with people across all levels—from shop floor technicians to executive leadership
      • Self-motivated with excellent planning and time management capabilities
      • Valid driver's license and clean driving record

What We Offer

  • Competitive compensation structure: Base salary plus uncapped monthly commissions—your earning potential grows with your results
  • Comprehensive benefits: Medical, dental, vision, 401(k) and more
  • Paid time off: Vacation, holidays, and sick days
  • Tools for success: Company laptop, cell phone, and mileage reimbursement
  • Career development: Ongoing manufacturer training and professional development opportunities
  • Autonomy: Manage your territory with strategic independence while backed by strong internal support

Work Environment

This is a field-based role requiring up to 75% travel, primarily local day trips within your territory. Occasional overnight travel for training or business development is expected. Standard schedule is Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m., with flexibility to accommodate customer needs.
