Job description

About Kota

Kota is making insurance and retirement benefits as accessible as modern software. We do this across the Kota Platform - the world’s first fully integrated benefits platform and Kota Embed - our embedded insurance and retirement product for platforms. Our mission is to make insurance and benefits more accessible and delightful to this generation of employees.

Today, we power benefits for tens of thousands of employees at Europe's most forward-thinking companies, including Carwow, Tines, Zoe, and Remote. Founded in 2022, we've raised more than €20M from leading investors like EQT Ventures, Eurazeo, Northzone, and Frontline, along with founders and executives from Workday, Remote, Personio, OpenAI, and more.

About the team

As part of Kota’s Forward Deployed Engineering team you’ll work directly with our customers (global payroll providers, HR platforms) by helping them adopt our APIs and SDKs through hands-on support, integrations, and early insights. Our goal is to remove complexity so platforms spend less time wrestling with legacy systems and more time delivering benefits people love.

The role

As a Forward Deployed Engineer (FDE) at Kota, you’ll sit at the intersection of engineering, product, and customer success. You’ll partner directly with our customers to design and deploy solutions that unlock the full value of Kota’s developer products. Unlike traditional software engineering roles, this position is highly customer-facing and hands-on. You’ll write production-quality code, advise partners on best practices, and influence our product roadmap based on real-world integrations. This role is perfect if you want to apply your technical skills in high-impact, customer-facing environments while shaping how benefits are delivered globally.

What you’ll do

  • Partner with our customers’ engineering teams to integrate Kota’s SDKs and APIs into their platforms.

  • Translate customer needs into scalable, production-ready solutions.

  • Contribute to Kota’s product by building internal tools, writing reusable code, and identifying opportunities to improve APIs and SDKs.

  • Work closely with Product, Engineering, and Customer Success teams to ensure successful deployments.

  • Act as the technical voice of the customer - shaping features and roadmap decisions.

  • Debug complex issues across multiple systems, APIs, and data flows.

About you

  • 5+ years of experience as a Software Engineer, Solutions Engineer, or similar engineering or technical role that includes customer-facing work.

  • You can write and review production code in TypeScript, Python, or C# (experience with multiple languages is a plus).

  • Comfortable working across APIs, SDKs, and data integrations.

  • Have successfully scoped and shipped complex systems in fast-moving environments.

  • Excellent communication skills; you can explain technical concepts clearly to non-technical stakeholders.

  • Spot risks early and adjust without slowing down.

  • You have a bias for action - you thrive in ambiguity and can move quickly while maintaining high-quality standards.

Nice to Have

  • Experience in fintech, insurtech, or HR tech.

  • Familiarity with global payroll, benefits, or insurance systems.

  • Prior experience in a forward deployed, solutions, or professional services engineering role.

  • Prior startup or solo-founder experience.

  • Familiarity with developer experience tooling or internal enablement work.

And of course.... Your employee benefits!

  • Health Insurance contribution via Kota.

  • Access to a Workplace Pension with matched contributions (depending on location)

  • WFH stipend to support your home office needs.

  • Group Life Assurance via Kota.

  • Generous PTO - work hard and take the time you need.

  • Annual, company-wide offsite
