Actuarial Lead

Location: Milan, Italy | Hybrid working with time in our Milan office and the flexibility to work from home

Business Unit; Actuarial

Employment Type: Permanent, full time, 37 hours per week, Monday to Friday

Reports To: Regional Director

The Opportunity:

This is an opportunity to join Assurant Europe as an Actuarial Lead in Milan, working in a hybrid role that combines technical actuarial and pricing expertise with business partnership. Reporting to the Regional Director, you will support pricing for new business opportunities and monitoring existing underwriting scheme performance, identifying areas for improvements and making clear recommendations to support the achievement of the regional business plan. You will work with colleagues across Europe, contribute to continuous improvement, and have the opportunity to broaden your experience through our actuarial exam and rotational programme.

What you will do:

  • Prepare pricing for new business opportunities ensuring that pricing is within risk appetite, sustainable and provides the opportunity for business development teams to win new business.
  • Prepare regular performance analysis output, monitoring actual vs expected results for both internal and external business partners. Ensure reports and business communications support effective business decision-making. Gather, validate and interpret data from a range of sources, applying appropriate methodologies and identifying trends that may influence business performance.
  • Translate financial projections into practical business metrics, recommendations and insights for stakeholders across finance, accounting, regulatory, IT and other teams.
  • Recommend improvements to pricing and underwriting processes, data quality, reporting and ways of working.
  • Lead or contribute to team projects, support knowledge sharing, and provide constructive peer review and feedback.
  • Manage multiple priorities and deadlines while continuing to develop your actuarial expertise and professional qualification pathway.

What you Bring:

  • Fluent Italian and English communication skills. English is used as the common business language across Assurant Europe.
  • A degree in Mathematics, Actuarial Science or a related field, or a demonstrated relevant business experience.
  • Progressive actuarial and/or underwriting experience, with a strong understanding of actuarial and underwriting concepts, insurance products and business performance drivers.
  • Confidence working with Microsoft Office (Excel and PowerBi) and data tools such, SQL or similar platforms.
  • Strong analytical, project management and problem-solving skills, with the ability to explain complex information clearly.
  • A collaborative approach, curiosity to learn, and an interest in building trusted relationships across teams and markets.

Benefits & Training 

  • Full time base salary range: €50,600 – €65,800 based on 14 salary instalments
  • Full time is classed as 37 hours per week, Monday to Friday
  • Bonus or variable pay: 10% performance bonus based on 70% company and 30% individual performance. Paid March 2027 (pro-rated).
  • Hybrid working arrangement with flexibility to work from home and from our Milan office.
