Digital Media Solutions (DMS) works with scientists, universities, organizations, societies, and publishers across more than 150 accounts from around the world. Through our content writing and design services, we convert complex scientific ideas into engaging content and visuals tailored to different audiences. Read more about DMS and past projects here.

 

As a Scientific Graphic Designer, you will combine scientific expertise with creative design skills to produce accurate and visually engaging materials. Your work will include scientific illustrations, graphical abstracts, journal cover images, infographics, posters, brochures, and more. You will be responsible for ensuring that all visuals are both scientifically accurate and visually impactful, aligned with client requirements.

Job responsibilities:
  • Develop visually engaging graphical abstracts that succinctly represent the essence of a scientific study.
  • Read and comprehend scientific manuscripts to extract key visual elements and concepts.
  • Develop storyboards that outline the visual narrative, ensuring alignment with the scientific content and client objectives.
  • Generate rough sketches to illustrate the initial visual concepts, collaborating closely with researchers, writers, and clients to refine and finalize the visual representation.
  • Reviewing your peers and freelancers’ outputs to ensure they meet client expectations and are delivery-ready.

Qualifications and prerequisites:
  • Graduate/PhD degree in STEM fields (especially Biology/Biotechnology/Medicine/Chemistry/Physics/Engineering)
  • 3-5 years of experience in scientific graphic designing, communicating science and complex research into visually engaging output.
  • Advanced skills in Adobe Design Suite (Illustrator and Photoshop).
  • Creating 3D designs in Blender is an added advantage.
  • Experience in scientific graphic designing, medical illustrations, journal cover designs, and graphical abstract.
  • An understanding of the scientific publishing & science communication landscape.
