Hybrid Role Deployment Project Manager.

Management of customer projects, driving achievement of customer and Ciena cost, schedule and quality goals on the project. Overall management for implementation of medium to large size projects, with medium/high complexity, within a customer network.

What will you do?

We are seeking a senior and results-driven Project Manager with solid experience in the Telecommunications sector to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for leading the end-to-end deployment cycle of complex projects, ensuring the delivery of robust infrastructures within schedule, budget, and the highest quality standards. Since we operate in multicultural environments, we are looking for a professional with excellent multilingual communication skills and the ability to effectively manage both local and international stakeholders

Key Responsibilities     

  • Full Account Level management responsibilities of the Services Project Management team responsible for the successful implementation of EF&I projects, with medium complexity, within a Customer network, being supported by PMO Team
  • Ensure Service target margins are achieved, contributing to accurate revenue recognition, ensuring committed schedules and deliverables are met, and that projects meet Customers expectations for quality and service.
  • Services Project Managers may support pre-sales activities, providing project management subject matter expertise. Deployment Project Managers typically interface with the internal Program Managers, Customer project management and Operations teams, Sales, Bid Management, Service Delivery Groups, and Finance to ensure project deliverables and financial targets are met.

General Activities             

  • Provide overall direction and management, often over a project team involved, to implement medium-to-complex projects and programs within a Customer Network, e.g. in service network consolidations, competitor rips etc,.
  • Based on input from Sales and Manufacturing, Develops the EF&I project forecast as it relates to material and distribution.    
  • Oversees and ensures proper planning to meet sales forecasts.  Make certain that deviations to the project schedule are investigated and properly followed up.
  • Ensures proper contact with customers relating to field project activities.        
  • Works closely with Engineering on project implementation within the E, F & I Services Organization.
  • Partners directly with internal and external customers to translate requirements into structured and executable tasks and milestones.               
  • Facilitate communication between internal groups, internal functions, and outside suppliers/customers as necessary in support of the project execution 
  • May be required to contribute to process management optimization efforts associated with project management     
  • Document and communicate project status, obstacles and resolutions to management.       
  • Accountable for developing and coordinating carefully designed and approved action plans to successfully complete E,F & I projects.   
  • Act as the primary point of contact for all aspects of the project         
  • Assure all parties maintain close communication and coordination regarding project status and milestones.      
  • Maintain project schedules and report to Management regularly or as agreed.        
  • Be ready to receive training to develop skills in Deployment Projects and Project Management.
  • Participate when asked in process improvement initiatives as assigned.         
  • Identify PM requirements, and participate in the selection process, to establish a PM team that will provide timely and effective execution of project.
  • International Communication: Interface directly with clients, partners, and global teams in English and Spanish, ensuring clear alignment of expectations and concise status reporting.
  • Risk Analysis: Proactively identify and manage technical, regulatory, or supply chain/logistics risks that could impact site activation.

Requirements and Qualifications

  • Proven track record in managing telecommunications deployment projects (fiber networks, DWDM)
  • Customer Focused - Addresses underlying needs of the customer            
  • Critical Thinking / Analysis- Sees multiple relationships and goes beyond the direct information presented to get to the "root of the problem".                                        
  • Judgment - Makes Moderately Complex decisions while weighing the pros and cons. 
  • Decisiveness - Delivers decisions in the face of completing alternatives                                                
  • Organizational Awareness - Understands formal and informal structure and the climate / culture of the organization
  • Outstanding planning, scheduling, and coordination skills                                       
  • Communication, Organization and Leadership Skills preferred.                                          
  • Resource Management ability and understanding of Outsourcing Methodology                                     
  • Is self-motivated and can work from high level departmental goals               
  • A team player that will work well in a cross functional team environment                            
  • Must have proficiency with most common software applications including Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint and Excel).                                  
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Telecommunications, Electrical, Civil), Computer Science, Business Administration, or related fields.             
  • PMP Certification is highly preferred.
  • Advanced English and Spanish (reading, writing, and speaking for business meetings) preferred and will be considered a strong differentiator.
