The Opportunity

Lesley University's Department of Humanities and Social Sciences is seeking a highly qualified adjunct faculty member to teach: CHUMS 3315 - Rebel Stories; Fall 2026 Term I; Remote, Asynchronous.

Course Description: 
This course will explore how Latin American women’s participation in society has served as a catalyst for social and political change. Students will engage with the works of influential writers and activists such as Sor Juana InΓ©s de la Cruz, Isabel Allende, Rigoberta MenchΓΊ, and others, to examine the perspectives, experiences, and values of women across Latin America. This course will draw on a range of sources, including contemporary literature, history, sociology, personal narrative, interviews, and movies.

Qualities & Capabilities

A successful candidate will have:

  • Master's degree in Latin American Studies, Hispanic Studies, Women's and Gender Studies, or a closely related field (required); PhD or terminal degree (preferred)

  • Demonstrated expertise in Latin American history, literature, culture, and/or gender studies

  • Experience teaching at the undergraduate level, preferably in an online or asynchronous environment

  • Commitment to student-centered, inclusive, and equitable teaching practices

  • Experience facilitating engaging online discussions and fostering student interaction in asynchronous courses

  • Experience using learning management systems and instructional technology to support online teaching and learning

  • Bilingual proficiency in Spanish and English is strongly preferred
