SAP PI/PO Technical Consultant
Role Summary
The SAP PI/PO Technical Consultant is responsible for designing, developing, configuring, and supporting integration solutions using SAP Process Integration / Process Orchestration. The role involves connecting SAP and non-SAP systems, building interfaces, troubleshooting integration issues, and ensuring reliable end-to-end data exchange across enterprise applications.
Key Responsibilities
Integration Design and Development
- Design and develop integration scenarios using SAP PI/PO.
- Configure objects in Enterprise Services Repository ESR and Integration Directory ID.
- Develop mappings using:
- Graphical Mapping
- Java Mapping
- XSLT Mapping
- ABAP Mapping, where applicable
- Build and configure interfaces such as:
- File-to-IDoc
- IDoc-to-File
- Proxy-to-REST
- SOAP-to-RFC
- JDBC-to-SAP
- SFTP-based integrations
Adapter Configuration
- Configure and support SAP PI/PO adapters including:
- IDoc Adapter
- RFC Adapter
- SOAP Adapter
- REST Adapter
- File/SFTP Adapter
- JDBC Adapter
- JMS Adapter
- Mail Adapter
- Proxy Adapter
- Manage communication channels and troubleshoot adapter-related issues.
Monitoring and Support
- Monitor interfaces using:
- SAP PI/PO Runtime Workbench
- SAP NetWeaver Administrator
- Message Monitoring
- Component Monitoring
- Communication Channel Monitoring
- Analyze failed messages and perform error resolution.
- Support production incidents and interface-related service requests.
- Perform root cause analysis for integration failures.
System Integration
- Work with SAP modules such as FI, MM, SD, PP, HCM, EWM, Ariba, SuccessFactors, or other SAP applications.
- Integrate SAP ECC or SAP S/4HANA with third-party systems.
- Support integration with cloud platforms and external APIs.
- Collaborate with functional consultants, ABAP developers, basis teams, and business users.
Technical Configuration
- Configure RFC destinations, ports, partner profiles, and IDoc settings.
- Support proxy configuration between SAP backend systems and PI/PO.
- Handle certificate management and secure connectivity.
- Configure transport of PI/PO objects across development, quality, and production systems.
Documentation and Testing
- Prepare technical specifications and interface design documents.
- Support unit testing, integration testing, regression testing, and user acceptance testing.
- Document interface flows, mapping logic, error handling, and operational procedures.
Required Technical Skills
- Strong experience with SAP PI/PO 7.3, 7.4, 7.5.
- Hands-on experience with ESR and Integration Directory.
- Knowledge of ICO configuration, sender/receiver agreements, and integrated configuration objects.
- Experience with synchronous and asynchronous interfaces.
- Good understanding of:
- XML
- XSD
- WSDL
- SOAP
- REST
- JSON
- HTTP/HTTPS
- SFTP
- Experience with IDocs, RFCs, BAPIs, Proxies, and Web Services.
- Knowledge of message mapping, UDFs, and value mapping.
- Familiarity with SAP NetWeaver Administrator and PI/PO monitoring tools.
- Basic knowledge of SAP functional modules and business processes.
Preferred Skills
- Experience with SAP Cloud Integration / SAP Integration Suite / CPI.
- Knowledge of API Management and event-driven integration.
- Experience with SAP S/4HANA integration projects.
- Java programming knowledge for custom mappings or adapter modules.
- Experience with Agile or hybrid project delivery models.
- Understanding of security concepts such as SSL, certificates, OAuth, and basic authentication.
- Knowledge of migration from SAP PI/PO to SAP Integration Suite is a plus.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or related field.
- SAP PI/PO certification is preferred but not mandatory.
- 3+ years of experience in SAP PI/PO development and support.
- Experience in full lifecycle implementation or support projects.
